Nurse gave me WRONG test results!

My daughter saw the Immunologist at Emory on Monday and had her blood tested

again, as she does about once a year to see if there are any changes. She is

IgA Deficient. The doctor called yesterday while I was out, and told me to call

back because she had her lab results. I did, and the nurse told me all of her

levels were NORMAL. I asked specifically " her IgA level is NORMAL??? " , and she

said yes, that's what the doctor told me to tell you. I asked her specifically

" is it the same as always, or are they all within a normal range? " , and she said

she was pretty sure everything was normal.

I wasn't so sure about that, as that would be a big change, but I know there is

a chance they can outgrow it around age 6 (or so I've heard). I asked her to

have the doctor back to confirm. I was ELATED! I started crying I was so

happy, I called my husband, my sister, my mother, my mother-in-law; then the

nurse called back about an hour later. She said everything was normal EXCEPT

the IgA. I could have killed her. How could someone be so careless when giving

test results to a patient's mother? I've always expected that she would outgrow

it, although consciously I know that it may never happen.

So we're just the same as before, which I can deal with, but I was so elated for

about an hour yesterday thinking that she didn't have a PID anymore. If that

nurse was standing in front of me I think I would have hurt her. So I still

have my beautiful daughter and I love her, but that " false hope " can hurt a

little bit.
