Guest guest
>a name: "With your craft, do you use exotic wood...Thank you for asking.I start with cabinet makers scraps, or unusual small pieces of wood, full of character, from a lumber yard or importer. That is to say pieces of wood so different from the 'usual' that there is not enough of it to make a piece of cabinetry or furniture where the pieces need to look alike. I use 'soft' woods that are capable of taking a high polish. 'Soft' meaning not hard. By definition a 'hard wood' is one that loses it leaves, or needles, in winter. A 'soft wood', by definition, retains it's leaves, or needles, in winter. However I'm from California where as in every aspect of life there are exceptions. So what I'm trying to say is that I use soft hardwoods, like walnut and mahogany, for example. Exotic simply means the wood comes from out of this country, as opposed to domestic, which means the wood comes from within this country. I use both. I use more kinds of wood than I could easily post here, however the one wood I use most is Aromatic Incense Cedar, or more specifically, Tennessee Red. There are a couple of dozen kinds of cedar but I use the one that smells the most. The scent of Cedar refreshes memories, people who smell cedar smile. Aroma adds another sensation beyond look, feel, and sound to my work.> "Since paper is made of trees"Paper can be made from any fiber. I believe the word paper itself is derived from the name of an Egyptian plant called papyrus. Rainbow
