Tricor will not have the issues that you

experience with the real statins. I have taken it off and on for some time and

never had any problems. And yes it does a real number on your Triglycerides.

Might start at a low level, 48 mg and

see how it goes.

Taking Lipitor

Subject:

To the cardiolgist today

I just had my 2 week

workup following my visit with my new cardiologist

My blood test was

BP . ... 136 over 82

Cholesterol ... 243 ... dropped 5 points

Triglicerides were reported as high.

He wants me now to take TriCor to lower my Triglycerides and by doing

so it will bring my cholesterol under control.

I just looked it up on the web and TriCor is just another statin. Not

going to

take it.

Is there a supplement that anyone knows of that works on the Triglycerides

directly?

Very high dose fish oil (over 3,000mg of DHA+EPA).

Niacin, but only the type that makes you flush like a baboon.

Both work on triglycerides directly....and additionally HDL, LDL

particle size, etc.

Also consider vitamin D3 for cardiovascular problems, it raises HDL.

Dear Ed,

I had as bad experience with Tricor as Statins and eventually I I had to give it up. I have come to conclusion that any medicine which directly reduces cholesterol does have side effects , may be because they work on your liver. But those which in general are good for cardiovascular health like Omega 3 , normally do not have side effects.

Regards,

Anil

If you are taking mega doses of fish oil (3000mg of DHA+EPA would be

like over 10 regular capsules) and you still have triglycerides at this

level, I would suspect thyroid. Do you have levels of your TSH, FT3, and

FT4?

Have you tried niacin (not the no flush variety)?

My triglycerides once upon a time were 173. With 1,000mg of niacin

(Endurance Products EP variety) , 10 Lovastatin, and 6,000mg of EPA+DHA

my triglycerides are around 40. Even without the Lovastatin they are not

above 60.

Bingo! T3 thyroid hormone has a huge impact on triglycerides. And its a genuine

metabolic reduction. Not an artificialy induced reduction that bypasses any

metabolic gains. The Free T3 lab is your critical number. I would look at that

first Ed.

Diet (remove grains, sugars, processed foods OR do low carb OR do a

paleo diet)

Weight Loss (trigs come down as weight is lost)

Regular Exercise lowers trigs

Fish oil (very effective at 2.5 to 3.0 grams of DHA+EPA)

Niacin (very effective at several grams)

Pantethine

Cinnamon (1 gram/day in divided doses)

Excellent suggestion about having the Thyroid function check. TSH is kinda

meaningless as it will only tell what state you

live in, where the Free T3 and Free T4 are much more specific. Unfortunately

most Dr.s only order the TSH. Have you had a

High Sensitivity C reactive protein test to look for non specific inflammation?

If your thyroid testing determines you need some help with medication, Armour is

the only way to go, unless you have some

kind of reaction to it. Unlike the other popular drugs, Armour has both T3 and

T4. Here again you might have a tough time

getting you Dr. to prescribe it, as they all seem to want to use Synthroid.

According to my doctor and several others, take a TABLESPOON of fish oil per day

to lower Trigs. Also, stop eating ALL grains and sugar. phine

It has to be the highest dose of EPA and DHA like Carlson's or Natural Factors.

Would that be (4) 1,000mg fish oil capsules or 4,000mg EPA+DHA?? Huge

difference in quantity, but great results on your part.

Believe it or not, my doctor actually told me to take 4 - 1000 mg. of fish oil everyday to lower my triglycerides. He knows I can't tolerate statins and suggested this at my last visit. ED:

Tricor is one of the fibrate family (fenofibrate), its not a statin but can be

just as bad for side effects. In a study in Europe, gemfibrizal(Lopid) was

used. It cut heart attacks, but over an 8 1/2 year period the all cause

mortality was higher than those in the placebo group.

Try fish oil for Triglicerides, each 1 gram horse pill contains approximately

300 mg of epa/dha. You need to start with about 1800 mg of epa/dha or about 6

grams a day. Go up from there if you don't get the results

ED:Tricor is one of the fibrate family (fenofibrate), its not a statin but can be just as bad for side effects. In a study in Europe, gemfibrizal(Lopid) was used. It cut heart attacks, but over an 8 1/2 year period the all cause mortality was higher than those in the placebo group.Try fish oil for Triglicerides, each 1 gram horse pill contains approximately 300 mg of epa/dha. You need to start with about 1800 mg of epa/dha or about 6 grams a day. Go up from there if you don't get the resultsGaule>> I just had my 2 week workup following my visit with my new cardiologist > > My blood test was > > BP . ... 136 over 82> > Cholesterol ... 243 ... dropped 5 points> > Triglicerides were reported as high.> > He wants me now to take TriCor to lower my Triglycerides and by doing> so it will bring my cholesterol under control.> > I just looked it up on the web and TriCor is just another statin.
