Guest guest
I am finding this very interesting :-) " Even when we do take from Mother Earth, we return something else to Mother Earth as thanks for sharing with us. " This sounds very similar to Shamans of Anglo Saxons, who also used plants and always gave back to nature for what they took. I am thinking specifically of a book I have read called 'Way of the Wryd' which was based on an old Christian manuscript. There was a lot of reverance for nature within it. " 1. Take Care of Mother Earth and the other 3 colors of Man. " What are the 3 colors of Man please? " I have simplified the importance of this precept but only because I could go on for quite some time on my beliefs and my culture. " I don't mind - I find this stuff fascinating :-) > > Rainbow, thank you very much for asking me for my input on this > topic. > > The Sacred Instructions given by the Creator to Native people at the > time of Creation are as follows: > > 1. Guest guest
Re: > > 1. Take Care of Mother Earth and the other 3 colors of Man. Humans come in only 4 colors? I see hundreds, at least - in a smooth spectrum from dark-brown to ivory, which makes it difficult for me to define any four as 'the " skin-colors for humans. And why would the Native Americans, in particular, get the job of " taking care of " everybody else? It sounds, to me, just a weeeeeee bit close to racism ... Guest guest
If I'm not mistaken it refers to the 4 races (red, yellow, black and white) rather than exact shades. That Native Americans would be appointed guardians of the rest of us may be because they have a long tradition of actually caring. I don't see what's racist about that. Guest guest
Wow, Kate, you really do put a nasty twist to something as beautiful as my people's culture and beliefs. We didn't come up with these beliefs last week. This has been our culture from the start, long before most cultures were able to acknowledge that there would men of other colours somewhere else in the world. Our beliefs grew from a time when the colours of man were very distinct as there had been quite the cross-connections that we now have. And please point out where I posted that my people are the only people in charge of taking care of everyone else? Are the beliefs of my people with regards to being responsible not similar in basis to the Christian belief that we are our brother's keeper? You know, this is one of the reasons I rarely talk about my background, my personal life, my essence ... because many people seem to regale in finding ugliness where none exists until it is brought in by the ones seeking it. I was going to post our Code of Relationships before I came across your post, Kate. Then I thought twice about doing so because it will very likely become the next target with which to denigrate my people's beliefs. Then I thought it would be selfish of me not to share at least this last bit with people so they can decide for themselves if there is something of value which they can take from this code and incorporate into their own lives. 1. Speak only words of truth. 2. Speak only of the good qualities of others. 3. Be a confidante and carry no tales. 4. Turn aside the veil of anger to release the beauty inherent in all. 5. Waste not the bounty, and want not. 6. Honor the light in all. 7. Compare nothing; see all for its suchness. 8. Respect all life; cut away ignorance from one's own heart. 9. Neither kill nor harbor thoughts of an angry nature, which destroys peace like an arrow. 10. If you see what needs doing, do it. Many months ago, I left Secret Society for reasons of my own which were valid at the time. If this is what this group is going to become -- one where other people's views are ridiculed or attacked rather than discussed, clarified, considered -- then it is time for me to remove myself from this group yet again. I am wounded that someone with no reason to attack what I posted about my people's spirituality and beliefs could bring such ugliness to what was written. Raven P.S. Guest guest
Imagine, you thinking that you are a kind person with a loving heart and a gentle soul. When you slam me with your insults about " paint jobs " you insult more than just me, Kate. You insult yourself. Guest guest
Ravenmagic - thanks for sharing. What you have shared makes me seek to know more - specifically: /1/ Do all of the hundreds (or thousands) of Native American people (each and every one of your many nations) indeed teach these statements? /2/ Does there exist checkable evidence that the statements you cited previously (about " taking care of the other three colors, " etc.), and/or the statements you give now (the Code of Relationships) existed as part of the culture of one or more Native American peoples before contact with non-Native-American cultures? Thanks, in any case, for clarifying that your beliefs do not in fact limit the task of caretaking only to Native Americans. This greatly reassures me, so I'll stop worrying about possible racism among those beliefs. Again, thanks. Guest guest
I just wanted to say thanks for posting this Raven - I really do like hearing about others beliefs and cultures. I hope some tolerance/respect/kindness/consideration etc will come back to this site soon. > > > > Re: > > > > > > > > 1. Guest guest
Does tolerance include tolerating the questions you wouldn't ask and the opinions you disagre with, or does it mean only tolerating the questions and opinions that you approve? Guest guest
" And why would the Native Americans, in particular, get the job of " taking care of " everybody else? It sounds, to me, just a weeeeeee bit close to racism ... " I can only postulate why Native Americans would believe that they should take care of everyone else (I am reading these posts in order - so if Raven has explained later on, forgive me) but if I were to theorize, I should think it was because they witnessed the dsirespect and destruction rendered by the Europeans on the landscape and felt that only children could squander such a resource in this fashion, and that these people needed to be taken care of. Or perhaps it was that they were doing so as kindred spirits...caring for their fellow men, in other words. Her statements merely impart her beliefs. I see nothing racist in her statements, nor do I see anything racist in her beliefs. But I DO see PLENTY of racism in yours. You are on moderation right now until I can weed through all the posts and better ascertain why you have inflamed Raven and and of their complaints against you are warranted. This means all your posts have to be approved by a mod. I will be as expedient as I can in sorting things out. But I cannot guarentee I will solve all this until Monday. My access to my computer is limited and it seems to be running slowly. Tom Administrator

Guest guest
" What is MAN " is one of the questions in which " men " have always gotten themselves in trouble. People have always been xenophobic and I believe that is one of the reasons people always create restriction on " What a MAN is. " And by labeling outsiders as " not Human/man " it was okay to kill them without braking taboos against murder.... Ender At 12:57 PM 3/4/2006, you wrote: >Re: > > > > > 1.
