Guest guest
To any newbies on the list: For those wondering if indeed there is enough proof to stop taking statin drugs I just ask that you go back and read through the archives.........every one of us has a story and lumped together is pretty convincing that indeed something is going on with these statins. I'm 71 and was on lipitor for three years .......experienced muscle cramps.....problems with my memory.....severe depression.........would lose words in mid-sentence.......the list could go on and on. Eventually I became a somewhat invalid no longer to walk to the corner without severe leg pain..had to stop exercising totally ...I felt like I had the flu with aches all over...........I felt like I had aged 100 years and was not the same person. Personality changed and I became a major grouch. Eventually I was able to convince my dr to take me off or I was just going to quit taking it............all his employes (nurses etc) told me they hear the major complaint as side effects from statin drugs as the reason they are there...................... I was convinced to switch to zocor and did for awhile but only got bad again.........so I didn't wait.......I took myself off and told him NO MORE statins..........he agreed and put me on zetia.............I have now taken myself off of that and take fish oil and eat pretty good.................but I am one of those who believes there are other issues bigger than the level of my cholestrol. It has taken me many months to get back some of my energy and feel my leg aches are indeed somewhat better but not gone .......somehow I don't believe I will ever get back to the way I used to be................ Guest guest
Fist of all, to the new member , Welcome to the group. I agree with Carol, look through the groups archives. You should also go to Dr. Graveline's site; Spacedoc.net, he has a huge amount of information, about a web page per side effect. There is also a discussion board similar to this group My mother had some of the same problems as your ex-husband with Zocor, she didn't have memory impairment. She thought that she had arthritis and was taking two doses of Bextra and four doses of extra strength Tylenol per day in order function. Lets look at this, taking a drug to prevent heart attacks and covering up it's side effects with one known to give heart attacks, makes a lot of sense doesn't it. All of her symptoms cleared up after she stopped Zocor. Her Doc was not happy and put her on other statins. They all work the same and all have the same side effects. I jokingly tell my friends that Crestor is the best; it took Zocor two years to bring on the pain and agony, lipitor two weeks to make the pain return, but Crestor did the job in 4 days. Her Doc finally shut up after she told him that life required some quality. It appears to me that there are a lot of other people covering the side effects of these drugs with pain meds. As you research the Statin Drugs and their side effects, you will run across some Quacks preaching cholesterol is not the problem with heart disease, after a while you will begin to realize that these people aren't all that wrong. I think that the medical profession has returned using leaches; the only difference is that today the leach is attached to our bank accounts. Guest guest
I was on some form of statin for 4 or 5 years, everytime I complained about pain I was switched to another. Crestor was the last one... CRESTOR KICKED MY ASS!! I was weak and in pain for months, I thought I would be dead in a few more months. My FORMER doctor told me I was getting old. BAH! It has been 6 months since I have been off the stuff and I STILL have lots of pain! A 750mg hydrocodone helps some... Went to a new doctor this week and he ordered a bunch of blood tests They took 23 (yes twenty three) blood samples and a chest X-Ray. The gal that took the blood said I was the record for the most samples at one time. I am/was a 47 year old sorta fat, smoking, white dude, always healthy and mostly active, at work and at home. Now I don't do much and work is a pain in the ass. Tell you ex and everyone you know this stuff can REALLY hurt them and the injury may not go away! > > > > > > > > > > To any newbies on the list: > > > > For those wondering if indeed there is enough proof to stop taking > statin > > drugs I just ask that you go back and read through the > archives.........every > > one of us has a story and lumped together is pretty convincing > that indeed > > something is going on with these statins. > > > > I'm 71 and was on lipitor for three years .......experienced > muscle > > cramps.....problems with my memory.....severe > depression.........would lose words in > > mid-sentence.......the list could go on and on. Guest guest
Gayle... I just love the leech analogy. Perfect!!! I will be seeing a new dr. because I changed insurance plans and my previous dr. is not on the list. It is going to be interesting to see this drs. response when I tell I refuse to take any statins and then I will give him the list of supps. that I am currently taking. My wife knows this new dr. of mine and she tells me that he is a real jerk. Sounds like a patient-dr. relationship made in heaven for me. I will tell you all what happens when I make my first visit with him.
