Our ped calls canker sores " anthous ulcers " . Could that be what they meant?

was getting them in cycles for a bit, but hasn't gotten them lately.

(mom to , age 5-1/2, dairy intolerant-related GERD -- currently

has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell &

other defs... and also to Kate, born 9/19/02, dairy intolerant)

I noticed that there is an option with S to set up a poll. I would be

happy to do this with probiotics if there is interest. We have experience with

a few of them (e.g., VSL#3, Culturelle, S.Boulardii...).

Also...about smelly breath...my daughter smells like an infection before she

gets an infection and always before she becomes impacted with stool. Last

month, it got so bad that you could see a membrane of some micro-organisms at

the mid-back part of her tongue. I took her to our general peds doc because I

thought it might be thrush, again, but she said it looked more like an ulcer.

WHAT...an ulcer? I was totally floored. Our doc ran a basic urine test because

our daughter was impacted and had terrible back pain. The test showed positive

nitrites. But, she cultured negative. What was that? After she stooled (with

the help of laxatives from top to bottom) everything, including the mild fever,

went away! Everything! Medline indicates that the nitrities (byproduct of

bacteria) can show up in the blood or urine if a person is septic. How scary.

Has anyone had nitrites checked and associated it with gut pain/impaction?

I think what you are saying is aphthous ulcers. They are benign mouth ulcers

or canker sores. That is what has in addition to canker sores. I

haven't read all the posts as am so far behind. Hope that helps.
