Guest guest
Oh, that's too clever, Rainbow--correlating the golden calf with the golden arches! LOL! > > > Stan: " So how would WE do it? (Even though I doubt there were real idols once civilization exceeded 10,000 people. They had gods or a god, often represented by icons. An " icon " is one of those thingies you see in most churches.) > In light of our ingrained cultural addiction to the most popular > of junk foods, may I suggest a Golden Calf. > > Gigantic golden arches that could be seen from all over the > neighborhood would constantly remind each of us all day long what > is truly important in this life, and where to go to worship our > idol. I heard an explanation that either accidentally or intentionally, McD has modelled itself after a religion. They have the symbols, including a lesser diety ( Mcdonald), particular rites (picking up food, self-bussing food to their trashbins, and scripture understood by the enlightened (the menu, which can be somewhat cryptic for infidels). - s

Guest guest
The message I am replying to seems to have vanished (confused?). Yes I've seen the film Dogma - I quite enjoyed it actually :-) What were the Catholics(?) offended by?
Guest guest
You're Right! I would like it, I just watched the 'trailer' online.About renting..... We have had it with Blockbuster! Ever since they required us to download coupons for prepaid monthly movie rentals online we quit. I'm not about to give them my email address with the 'right' to bombast us with their propaganda. Guest guest
Well, I had said that a lot of Catholics were offended by the movie " Dogma " ... I went to a Christian Brothers High School and I can understand why... It hits too close to the truth too many times... Much of the dogma in religions and other closed orders is design designed by people to control other people and it works best if the controlled don't think about the " Dogmatic Truths " too much or they are likely question the system that keep the inner circle in power... I'm not a movie snob and it was okay, but I don't often go to the movies because most people don't want to see the things I want to. I had a good time a few years back going to movies by myself--it almost became as fun as going to the library. Also, the movie theatre by us is 9 dollars after 6:00. NINE dollars? That's insane!
