Guest guest
Actually a high school student just folded a piece of paper 12 times, after devising a formula for doing so. > > >a name: " No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven > (7) times. Guest guest
Awesome. There was a post recently about a girl at a college who busted a paper myth. Since paper is made of trees, I thought I'd ask you a question. With your craft, do you use exotic wood like Bois De Rose, Rosewood, etc.. ?"Rainbow ." <rainbow@...> wrote: >a name: "No piece of paper can be folded in half more than seven (7) times." Guest guest
26 times ! your paper must be rather thick ( 5.728mm ) I have just tried it with a 80 gsm, 0.10mm thick paper and after folding it 32 times i got to the moon 429,496 km. Distance from the Earth: perigee (closest): 363,000 km semimajor axis (mean distance): 384,400 km. apogee (farthest): 406,000 km Actually, the thickness of a square piece of paper folded in half 26 times would reach from the earth to the moon! Guest guest
> : "Okay, you asked for it: L = 1/6 n d (2 to some power + 4) (2 tosome power - 1)"> "Sorry, my computer won't type math symbols!"I'm not sure what you are getting at here......What I didn't say was: CUT a piece of paper in half, the operating word here is FOLD.What I was getting at..... It's not just the thickness of the paper multiplied. It is impossible to actually fold a piece of paper to only twice the paper thickness, in real life there is an added thickness where the fold occurs because one can't fold fibers perfectly, there is some space where the change of direction takes place. I hope I'm making some sense of this. Rainbow
Guest guest
I'm not sure what you are saying, either, but the girl did fold the paper. First she used gold leaf, then toilet paper, so it wasn't regular paper, so maybe it doesn't count! www.sciencenewsforkids.org/pages/puzzlezone/muse/muse0704.asp > > > : " Okay, you asked for it: L = 1/6 n d (2 to some power + > 4) (2 to > some power - 1) " > > > " Sorry, my computer won't type math symbols!
