Guest guest
Re: soy milk 's #1 fave is Edensoy, she drinks plain. Kate will drink any plain soymilk on earth, so she gets Dominick's generic... it's half the cost of Edensoy and has more calcium! MIL picks us up a case of Whole Foods' 365 brand plain soymilk sometimes, to me that tastes the best of all of them, and that's saying something because I never could get used to the taste of soy milk!! I am so accustomed to vanilla soy lattes from Starbucks from my no-dairy-while-nursing-Kate days that I can't stand it with regular milk now, it always tastes like sour milk! We started off with Silk soymilk, the one that's refrigerated. But I didn't like that it was so perishable, and we had a few occasions where the carton would swell up before the expiration date and that scared me so I threw it out. Never had a problem with the shelf-stable brands. (mom to , age 5-1/2, dairy intolerant-related GERD -- currently has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs... and also to Kate, born 9/19/02, dairy intolerant)
Guest guest
from Dale, Mom to Katy, CVID, age 20 No, she's doing well with milk over cereal as long as she doesn't drink a glass of milk with it. We were told that lactase is produced in one of the outer layers of intestinal lining. That's why when anyone has diarrhea, they are told to avoid dairy for a few days. Once the lining was re-established, we think she's producing some lactase -- just not adequate for overloads. I doubt she would even try the soy products because they were so awful when she was trying them. She did adjust to RiceDream and liked that on cereal and for hot-cocoa and strawberry Quick. (No, it wasn't nutritional, but it got calories down her!). We also found that the RiceDream cooked better than soy - although adjustments had to be made to recipes. Guest guest
Too bad. I understand why she wouldn't be interested in them if she tried back when they tasted so dreadful. They are SO much better now then they were 5-6 years ago. My kids' favorite is the " Very Vanilla " flavored one. They like it almost as much as the sugar and fat overloaded flavored milk drinks. Maybe she'll give it another try one of these days.
