Guest guest
Sorry I haven't read ANY mail lately, I'm swamped. I was asked to host Thanksgiving AND Christmas this year, and I'm finding Christmas to be MUCH harder because there's also all the card/pictures/gifts stuff in addition to just cleaning the house and throwing the dinner! Ahhh! Plus the kids are still sick!!! Anyway, Kate (non-PID) has had athlete's foot for a bit, no biggie, right? Well, 1-2 nails on each foot are now looking thick and yellowed. The ped was not sure, sort of saw what I was talking about, but said he's " never " seen nail fungus in a child this small. My first thought was " Oh no, not something rare in the healthy child!!!!! " , but I really really do think the nails are not right, I can see it very clearly even if he wasn't sure. He said to wait and see and he'd have to send her to a foot doctor if we thought it really was. Anybody have any info??? Thanks -- Happy Holidays! Guest guest
My dh has the thick, yellow nails from toe fungus! It will spread to the other toes and is a pain to get rid of. I don't think I'd wait. But the internal stuff they use for the fungus may be too strong for a child. Just my opinion Pam wife to (16 years) mother to , 10, Hannah, 7, Rebekah, 4, and Leah, 2 Re: Toddler nail fungus? Anyway, Kate (non-PID) has had athlete's foot for a bit, no biggie, right? Guest guest
MY 2 year old uses Diflucan--I do not know whether that works for the nails as well, because it is strong, but well tolerated. Guest guest
: That's what I was thinking, give her Diflucan. She's had it before for thrush and both girls have done well on it for thrush when needed. Thanks. Guest guest
Pam: Everything I've read makes me think I don't want to wait (just that the more entrenched it gets, the harder to cure), so I'm glad you put in your opinion. Mommy's instinct says I'm definitely seeing what I think I'm seeing and I'm a babytoe afficianado (sp), I just LOVE my babies' toes and feet! I think when she goes for her next well visit (I think it's 15 months, so it's any second!), we'll see a different doc and I'll push it more. Thanks again. Hi !! Happy Holidays!! I just wanted to mention that although Diflucan is well tolerated, there is a higher incidence of liver damage. It is a drug that should be used with caution--especially in younger children. Sandi--Mom to , age 10. Guest guest
My son has had this problem too. Right now it isn't too bad. The immunologist wanted us to soak his feet in epsom salts (easy for them to say when they aren't the one with a toddler). His is much better after I just kept trimming this discolored areas off. Genetia violet helps altough I didn't use it with him. - food allergy and asthma ds- 22 months MFA (MFPI), severe GP, GERD, EC, esophogitis, IgG immune deficiency, asthma, chronic ear infections. Survived last year from MRSA and c-diff on seperate occasions. On erythromycin 3times a day for the GP, Neocate 1+, Prevacid granules, Zantac, Flovent 44 and Nasonex. IVIG (replacement therapy of immunoglobins and antibodies) every 4 weeks. And..... yellow jackets. Ugh > Hi Everyone, > > My son also has toenail fungus. The bottom of his whole foot is cracked with white stuff in the cracks. I had been using a cream called clotrimozole, but so far it isn't gone. The ped said it wasn't fungus, and told me to use A & D ointment, but that isn't working. I'm sure it is fungus, it just takes a long time to heal. I read in the newspaper that vick's vapor rub works well to get rid of nail fungus. After a bath, you scrub your nails with a brush, then put the Vick's on. Many people had written into the column and said it worked wonders. I'm not sure if you can use it on a child. > > Hope all is well with everyone, and I wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a HEALTHY New Year!!! > > Temme Mom to Dylan-11 and Hunter-9 agamma..... > > Re: Toddler nail fungus? > > Sorry I haven't read ANY mail lately, I'm swamped.
