I called our ped this morning because Davin's breathing is now getting

really cruddy. He is coughing and really rattly. I gave him xopenex

and then his pulmicort and it helped a bit. His ear drainage is a

little better since we started floxin in addition to the cipro abx.

It still smells like sewer and the drainage has moved to his nose.

The nurse said that she is going to talk to dr and see what to do. It

sucks because our immuno is out of town this week so we have no one

else to see. He looks sick and isn't eating which is out of the

ordinary for him as he acts normal even when pretty sick. His eyes

are all puffy and he is irritable. I guess it figures the first day

of october he would go downhill. He did last year, but we have been

fortunate this year that he has only had pneumonia twice. UGGGHHH.

Sorry to vent, but I am the only adult here with two 2year olds and a

three year old. Need adult interaction..................

Care

Care,

did they culture the drainage from Davin's ear and nose? If they did, were

there multiple abx that would work or mainly the ones that they are using??

The reason I ask is two fold. One, we found that if we doubled or sometimes

even tripled up on the top responding antibiotics then we could get a handle

on the infections. The Floxin drops are great, BUT make the ear canal a

haven for yeast and that can seriously complicate matters. We had to do

Diflucan

twice for 21 days due to a major yeast overgrowth in his ear and sinus

cavities. Most likely Davin's breathing is being complicated by the drainage

from

is nose and whatever is growing in his sinuses and ear are now draining down

in to his throat and he is breathing in those bacteria. I think I would

definately go BACK to the doctor and inquire into additional abx treatment

(either adding another med to his current regime or maybe going to IV therapy

for

a short while to get the infection under control). I know that I was scared

silly when I thought about an ear infection requiring IV antibiotics, but

once we actually got the infection and yeast cleared up, it was much easier to

keep on top of the next infections. Once we added the IVIG the infections

started getting further and further apart until he stopped having them all

together.

I will be praying for Davin and I am sending well wishes your way.
