Hi Jerry. I am 68 and was on zocor and lopid for 8 years. Took myself off of them in June. Am beginning to feel better. Have been clear thru Mayo Clinic and no doc. would admit to anything.Check out SpaceDoc.Net. Good luck. Dale

Lipitor and Lopid

I have been taking Lipitor and Lopid for about 3 years and about a year ago I noticed I was losing weight and muscle. I read somewhere that the two should not be taken together. Does anyone know if this is true or not. I also have experienced short term memory loss almost immediately after taking Lipitor. I told my doctor about this and he acted like he didn,t believe me. He said they give this to alzheimer patients for memory loss. I quit taking the Lopid about a week ago to see if it would make a difference. I,m 68 years old and feel much older. My numbers are all good but I don,t feel good.

Go to this web address: http://www.drugs.com/PDR/Lopid_Tablets.html.

Look at warnings, drug interactions and contraindications on the PDR

sheet. I have pasted the drug interactions paragraph relating to

statins in this post. Also look at the mortality results of the

Helsinki Heart Study under warnings.

Also go to Spacedoc.net if you want to read about memory problems with

Statin drugs. Pleae note taht all of the advertising info about

alzheimer patients has the word " may " in the sentence.

3. Drug Interactions --(A) HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors: The risk of

myopathy and rhabdomyolysis is increased with combined gemfibrozil and

HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor therapy (see CONTRAINDICATIONS ). Myopathy

or rhabdomyolysis with or without acute renal failure have been

reported as early as three weeks after initiation of combined therapy

or after several months (refs. 8, 9, 10, 11). (See WARNINGS .) There is

no assurance that periodic monitoring of creatine kinase will prevent

the occurrence of severe myopathy and kidney damage.

I had some issues with Lipitor a few years ago and quit taking it for a few weeks just to see if I felt better.

That didn't help, so I went back on it thinking I was just getting older.

Long story short... I think you have to be off the stuff for months to start feeling better, if ever.

I have been off Crestor for seven months and I am just now starting to feel better.

If you think Lipitor is giving you problems, it probably is.

Just look back at all the messages in this forum and read your story written by someone else.

I am only 48 and seen a 105 year old man that can do more than me. I

am walking dead thanks to 2 years of Lipitor. Stop taking lipitor

imediatly. I am off of it for a year now and have got better very

slowly and only a little. I may give up hope. Just stop taking it. I

control my colesetrol very easy with diet.
