Guest guest
, I used to breed love birds and they would lay 4 eggs at a time but only feed 2 or the baby's so I would pull the 2 older ones out when the 2 younger ones hatched. I kept them in a 10 gallon fish tank with a heating pad under them when at home and had a shoe box with a hot water bottle for traveling. I know the up every 2 hr's for feeding routine quite well. Right now I have a baby tiel that is down (finely) to two feedings a day that was sick for a while with a crop fungus. Silly thing is spoiled rotten and to get it to start eating on his own I would let him nibble on most any thing I was eating at the time. Found out he likes scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast when he decided to stand in the middle of a plate and pig out. That's what I get for leaving him unattended for 30 seconds while I filled my coffee cup. He is nothing spectacular, just a normal gray we temporarily named Tweeters. And there is a betting pool at work on whether or not I'm going to keep him.
Guest guest
Yup... I have a diaper bag for birdies and one of those little water heaters that you plug in and heat one cup at a time. Lol, I have been known to carry an egg or two in my bra in a pinch but tiny babies likely would not survive... got a good laugh thinking of it though. I made a brooder out of a covered cat box, it has a ceramic heat lamp, a regulator, and thermometer. I also have a power inverter so I can plug in the brooder in the car. Traveling with babies so tiny is somewhat risky but beats starvation. I think they are too young to really know yet, but there sure is a commotion when they hear my voice. I should think they will be fully imprinted before the end of the week. We have an old cat... about 18 +/- that we are going to have to put down soon. Her hips are going out, trouble walking and so on. Will be a sad day... but I remember so well her hunting the mighty grasshoppers when we first moved up here. At that time you couldn't take a step without 20 or so jumping. Poor Sneaker gave up out of sheer frustration. Time to feed, dress, then head for my doctor (OV, lol). Wish me luck... PS... there is a reason the very young make most of the babies. Zzzzzzzzzzz Sounds like you're having a great time playing Mama. Just like all babies, disturbing your sleep for the first few months. How are you going to take them with you to your doctor appointment? Do they have a baby bird bag like a diaper bag or will you carry them in your bra? Have they imprinted on you or are they too young to know? What fun you'll have!!!!! Llucky llama llady ! I envy you. Spyke seems to have fixed on something in the back yard. He's spending all of his time in the kitchen window, only gets down to eat or visit the litter box. There must be something out there, I just hope it's not a skunk - we had one last year - they eat the slugs but there is a certain odour present (I can't smell so it doesn't bother me but if I have guests....) Take good care of the babies, better care of yourself. Suzie
Guest guest
Hey Connie, I will answer you privately in a bit :-) dearest, I wasnt gonna bother you with questions so dont feel you gotta answer them till you have all your chicks in a row (heh) and are feelin like at least a hundred bucks again. is the baby still twirping? I have been prayin for the little dollie. I have two tiels, one is Tweety, with the orange dot on the cheek thingie and the female is Pepper, and shes totally shy and sweet, but her entire life is spent on the bottom of the cage sitting on eggs that of a total of 57 so far this year, only one was fertilized. i feel so sorry for her. I was gonna set up an incubator so since you brought it up do you know off hand whats the proper temp for baby eggs? Also i was wondering since Pepper is a fancy face grey spotted tiel and Tweety is just a mean ol biting regular tiel, would the eggs even ..you know....hatch? would they be a combo of the two breeds or some little retards? i mean i wonder about Tweety the way it is cuz hes fallen offa his own dang perch so often and sings to my socks, so i think theres already possibly dain brammage in the picture. what do you think? what did you name the baby giraffe?
