Guest guest
I have not posted recently, but I have read a number of posts and am glad that this group is still in existance. I have been taking Zetia which acts in the digestive tract. Zetia alone lowered my total cholesterol from nearly 300 to around 235. I added cinnamon and got total cholesterol down to 184. My tryglycerides are still too high at 213 and HDL is in the 30's. When my total cholesterol got to 184, this frightened me. From some of the articles on these posting, it would seem that a person of my age, needs cholesterol to keep tissues in good shape. I can not remember exactly why. I have gone off the Zetia a couple of times for a week or two as I begin to get the neurological pains and also am beginning to feel the old weakness and fatigue that I had from the Zocor. When I let my cholesterol go up again my doctors nurse called and said the doctor wanted to put me on Lipitor again. And this is after I explained to him in detail about all the horrible side effects from Zocor. This was shortly after quiting Zocor about two years ago. I could not believe it. He either has no memory or doesn't care. This particularly upset me because I have been a patient of his since he first started his practice in 1980. I want to find a better doctor but just do not know hohow to go about it. He even recently diagnosed me with hyperparathyroidism and sent me to an endocrinologist. This Dr. saw me and said my Calcium level was only slightly raised and the PTH hormone was nonormal on 3 tests. I now wonder if the Statins had something to do withe parathyroid or calcium level as I have not had a normal Ca level since 2000. Has anyone else out there had problems with slightly raised CA levels?
