Hi ,

I do not think you are alone in this - although writing is my

prefered medium of communication compared to other forms, sometimes

even writing is hard, depending on what I am trying to express,

sometimes I cannot find the words to convey what I want and so there

are many times I cannot respond for lack of words. I kind of know

what I want to say in my head, but without words - it's hard to

describe in words - like a vaugue concept I suppose, but with no

words to explain it to another.

Sometimes the words come easier and other times not - so sometimes I

am more responsive and post more and other times I find it hard to

even write 'hello' and so sometimes do not.

And then of course there are times like this when I tend to

waffle/ramble on :-) I think this is over tired - gotta go to bed

soon.

Takes me forever to write a single mail too - an hour or more per mail is

not unusual, if I put some thought into it.

That's why I have to limit my participation. If I were to reply to every

post I find interesting, I'd still be here all day, like I've been for the

last 3 years. Now I've re-discovered that there is a world outside the

virtual one too. :-)

And this week has been particularly hectic with guests last weekend, middle

of the week and coming weekend too. So if I'm not around much right now,

this is why.

A world away from the computer :-o so the rumours are true :-) Maybe

it is time I stepped away from the computer. Of course I'd prefer to

do my research of this world at the computer ;-)

It takes me a long time to write things as well, which is why I

don't respond to as many posts as I would like to. Many of the

posts are facinating and I spend lots of time thinking about them

even when I don't reply. Sometimes I write about it in my notebook,

which is quicker writing because I don't have to think about whether

it will be coherent to other people or whether I will accidently

offend someone.

I have an above average vocabulary but it is still difficult to find

the right words sometimes. I have thoughts and feelings that are

very difficult to put in words.

It is still better than speaking. Spoken conversation does not lend

itself well to people who need to think about what to say for a

while before they answer.

Ilah,

I find that speaking is sometimes a hindrance because people say I

talk like I am a doctoral dissertation legs. People find me hard to

understand for that reason.

But when I speak I want the precise word, not a word that comes near

to the meaning I am looking for. Thus my vocabulary is quite

extensive.

From my point of view, it is irritating to talk to some people who do

not use precise diction because their imprecise vocabulary tends to

cloud their meaning and intent.

This is why I get annoyed with psychologists who think that people

with AS have a problem understanding directions sometimes. Well, we

DO, but only because other people are so vague in their word choices.

but of course, if we tried explaining this to psychologists, we would

be labeled as being too rigid in our expectations, which would only

confirm in their minds that we are " disordered. "

One can really tell that you put a lot of thought into your posts, Ilah. And

that you would rather submit quality than quantity. I for one really

appreciate that.

Many of your posts I would have liked to comment on because they elicited so

many thoughts in myself as well, but often I simply don't have time to go

into something that deeply, or I'd have to neglect many other

responsibilities. I keep saving them and hoping I'll have more time later,

but then 'later' all this other stuff needs to be done and the free time I

keep waiting for never seems to arrive. But I do read and enjoy even if I

don't always have time to comment.

Well, described, Tom.

But I actually find you very easy to understand (as far as vocabulary goes).

When you speak or write, your language is crystal clear to me.

I too prefer precise language and often take pains to find the exact right

term. Writing is good since that gives one more time to fiddle with each

sentence, but sometimes I like talking since one can convey so much more in

the same amount of time and also get a closer, more direct, connection with

the other person.
