Guest guest
Only problem the original message in group in lost in my overflowing inbox of emails but I did find the copy I copied and pasted for aol group with the info but without the group members name. Now I still don't know if Jon in Calif sent it or not but you did spark my memory to check on him. Thank You. Deb Note: forwarded message attached. From a member at our Grp. Xifaxan is being used by some Dr's as an off label prescribed med for HCV related encephalopathy with great results but it is very expensive. Deb For everyone with encephalopathy: There is a newish drug that hasworked wonders for me. It's called rifaximin (US brand name Xifaxan)and has been on the market in Italy for nearly twenty years. It's anon-systemic antibiotic and was originally developed to treattravellers' diarrhoea. It kills the bacteria in your intestines thatproduce ammonia. I'm completely off of lactulose though I understandsome MDs use it in combination with lactulose. I've been off lactulosefor 3 weeks and it's made a huge difference in my quality of life (I'ma pre-op TX patient). I have way more energy than I did on lactulose,my head is clearer, edima has gone down and NO MORE DIARRHOEA! Insteadof drinking goo 4 times a day I take 2 pills 3 times a day. I can'tsay enough good things about this drug. The only downside is it'sincredibly expensive. About $700 per month in California. If you haveHE, talk to your doctor about it and see if your insurance to pay forit. It may take some work but it can be well worth it!
