Hi, I am new to this board. The reason I am here is because my 3 yr

old PDD son's DAN doctor suggested trying Valtrex and I'm hoping I

can get some feedback on it. He has had a runny nose for over 2

months from a cold that he caught. He's never had a runny nose for

this long before, and I don't know if it's because he's in preschool

now and there are just more germs or what (he started preschool late

last February). His pediatrician thinks it's an allergy, but I don't

think it is. She gave us a nasal spray to use, but I don't think

it's working. We were doing chelation for 2 months with TD-DMPS, but

I stopped a few weeks ago because I wanted to see if it would help

his nose clear up. In addition, last week he had a mysterious high

fever for 3 1/2 days, and thank god it finally went away because I

was really worried.

Valtrex sounds scary & risky to me and I'm not sure if I want to use

it or if it's the right choice. My son's DAN dr. said a side effect

would be a rash like the chickenpox or measles, and I don't think

that would go over so well in school, but I am tired of hearing my

poor son sniffle and cough. I know it is an anti-viral medicine, but

my son is building up his immune system and was told he would get

sick alot when he started preschool. Wouldn't Valtrex interfere with

his immune sytem? How long would he have to take it? Please advise.

Thank you,

Patty
