's Second ARD Meeting ( alittle LOng)

Well had his second ARD meeting to discuss the OT's Eval and to discuss goals and objectives. Well I thought that the meeting was today (3-21) and in actuallity it was yesterday (3-20) I was a little upset that I had messed up but Carol (His diagnositican) was really nice about it and they gave me copies of the paper work from the meeting. Carol talked with me on the phone for a little bit while I was at the school since she was at another school. They decided that does not qualify for OT at this time. They did say that if in the future he needed it they would put it in place. She said based on the sensory profile that I filled out at home that he is sensory seeking and has auditory filtering problems or something to that effect, I don't have the paperwork in front of me at the moment. They did put his IEP for the classroom in place and I was pretty happy with those short term goals. They still want me to put him in Pull Ups until he's better at potty training. I

also discussed my concerns of Oral Motor issues with her and she left a message with his ST. Well I was still there when the ST got the message so she came and talked to me for a minute. I told her that I had some concerns about his oral motor functions and that his ECI therapists had had some concerns as well. She asked me what concerns I had and I told her that he was unable to make an accurate kissing face, he can't touch the outside of his cheeks or his nose with his tongue, he chokes because he over stuffs his mouth and those types of concerns. She said that they don't worry about the outside of the face but more about getting him to talk more and getting to where he can be understood. She asked me can he make the D and T sound and I said yes but I don't it's a really strong sound. She said if you were to put Peanut butter on his upper palate would he be able to lick it off and I said that I had tried that before and he wasn't able to do it. He doesn't blow bubbles that well

either. Anyway, she said that she would do some little "tests" at their next visit and she'd give me some notes about how it all went so we'll see. The Dev Ped thinks that the home health speech would be a great idea. She diagnosed him with a Receptive Language Disorder Mixed. So if the school decides that he doesn't have any oral motor problems then I'll get him into home health and let them do the oral motor stuff and let the school handle the other stuff.
