stan,

if i missed your response to this post by accidentally deleting it,

i'm sorry. i don't think i did as i've been checking almost hourly

but again, if i did i'm sorry.

my son, nick, has been on valtrex since july 10th. that makes it 36

days. this past friday, he came home from school with a fever of

101. over the last week and a half, he has lost his appetite almost

completely. it has even been difficult to get him to drink but, he

seems to be keeping enough fluids in now. his throat appears to be

very sore and he cries whenever he attempts to swallow. he wakes up

now every morning between 3-4am crying, sobbing and whining almost

like a puppy, as if he's in pain or the very least, discomfort.

i noticed that everytime i gave nick his valtrex pill, he would

spike a fever within an hour. all of his symptoms seemed to worsen,

as well. his last dose of valtrex was sunday morning when i made

the correlation between the fever and the valtrex. his fever is

gone since stopping the valtrex but his other symptoms are still

there. he is still eating very, very little and still wakes crying

and sobbing. he is still pretty lethargic at times during the day

and even when he's not lethargic, he's much more sedentary than

normal.

i don't know what to do. i took him to his pediatrician yesterday

to rule out any ear infections. she said his ears were clear and

that there is a virus going around that causes ulcers/sores on the

throat and mouth. she said she didn't see any ulcers in his throat

but that he had a red spot on one of his lips so he probably has the

virus. she said it would explain his pain when he eats. but, why

everything else?? could this really be a virus that's going around

or is it just her diagnosis because she has no idea about valtrex

and/or it's side efeects?? why would his fever spike after taking

the valtrex?? should i continue it despite that reaction?? i

really need your help, stan. i've waited all weekend in complete

desperation, panic, worry and concern for nick. i have never seen

him like this before. on saturday, he was so sick that he never

moved from the floor for 13 hours straight. i actually had to carry

him to the bathroom.

i don't mind giving himb the valtrex and dealing with all of this if

it sounds like the right thing to do. but, i don't know. nick is

his DAN dr.'s first patient taking the valtrex for this reason so he

is not familiar yet with these reactions. i am depending greatly on

your response to this as i am lost, scared and worried beyond

belief. i feel as if i'm losing my son. he looks terrible. he's

not himself and seems to be so uncomfortable. i am well aware that

there is the regression period. if this is it and it's normal and

expected, i'll put the brave face on and get through it. but, i

need some direction from you first.

fyi.. nick is also taking LDN and has been since november with nice

gains and no noticable negative side effects. however, i've read

some posts lately about LDN interfering with valtrex and could

possible cause appetite loss. are you aware of this? if so, could

it cause appetite loss now even though it hasn't before? should i

stop it while he's on the valtrex?

here's what he's taking now:

all 3 of houston's enzymes w/ every meal. (alternative to GFCF)

brainchild's minerals

LDN

diflucan

milk thistle

magnesium citrate

primal defense

coromega

valtrex (up until sunday morning)

sorry for the long post but, in case you can't tell, i'm desperate.

thank you,

tracey
