Hi Yes, you must request compounded from a compounding pharmacy -- and you need an Rx just like with a regular Rx of Valtrex. Compounded comes in a liquid form and is usually compounded with Stevia (a sweetener) and some natural fruit flavor. Regular Valtrex is a hard capsule (usually blue) and you must wash the dye off. If you child does not swallow pills (if he does no need for compounding) then you can have it compounded into a liquid form that does not taste offensive. Most compounding pharmacies can compound it in a day or two. The regular pills can be filled in a very short period of time. Rashes may either be viruses coming out or bites. Not all kids get rashes. If the Valtrex is compounded through Lee Silsby, they will compound

it into a grape or strawberry flavor. The color for the grape is a

greenish-purple. It is in a plastic bottle. It still tastes bad, but

is more tolerable for my son than the pills. I give him half a dose,

give a drink of juice, give him the other half of the dose and then

let him drink more juice. This is day four for us. He has a low

grade fever 97.8 and has a rash on the side of his thigh and buttock.

He also has a rash at the nape of his neck. I have not noticed any

change in behavior as of this time.

I hope this helps,

, My son started on Valtrex 2x a day at 250mg and I didn't see any reaction except a low grade fever for 3 days and very lethargic. After 21 days I increased him to 250 mg 3x's a day. We are 6 days into it and still no rash or aggressive or regressive behavior. The only thing I am seeing is an increase in his speech. I don't know if this is due to the Valtrex since we also chelate. There are some kids who are on 2-3 x's a day of 500mg. I recommend increasing slowly. Hi ,

In my opinion if you aren't doing Valtrex with an antifungal, you really aren't

doing the

treatment and I wouldn't expect much of a gain from it... or I would expect the

same

amount of success that most doctors report when not using an antifungal at the

same

time, which again is quite small.

Try not to think of it as a pure antifungal therapy either, basically it seems

that some

children have an infestation of some virus type thing that seems to be able to

either

change into fungus or seems to interact with fungus.

Before giving up, I would try them both together at the same time and give it a

real chance

to do anything.

Yes, not everyone is a responder to the therapy, but in my opinion, if you are

going to give

it a shot you might as well do it the way that others who have seen results have

done it.

Additionally, the common protocol calls for 250mg three times a day for children

about 32

to 38 lbs. Twice a day might not do the trick, IMO.
