hi Netty, i know how you feel. i just found out hat my son has autism. they 1st thought i was ADHD. my son is only 4yrs old. i know it can be hard to deal with so much. the best advice that i can tell you is go to the library, go on-line or ask your son doctor more about son mental health. you need to take it easy. you are your son's advocate. try to get as much information about it. once you get all your questions answered you will feel better . i hope my advice help you in some way. if anything you have a friend you can talk to. take care!!

Hi Nettie

I completely understand how you feel as it was just voiced (not

actually dx) that my son has tourettes. He is now 9. He was dx with

adhd, odd since 4, then learning dissabillities (non specified). i

also found out about 6months ago he has CAPD. The doc and i suspect

aspegers although not dx officially. And we recently took my son

off night meds as i was certain they were giving him seizures.

Too my suprise your son was dx oppossite of what most kids are dx.

I've read a lot of children with aspegers are first dx. as adhd.

If you find any good sites on Tourettes let me know, although since

it's not bad I haven't been too concerned. But when the doc said the

word torettes i just waited for my baby to go to bed to cry. i know

it's not life threatening, but i'm sure he'll get teaseed and

bullied even more.

take care

Aspergers actually lists as a SYMPTOM tics - it may be that your doc is a "splitter" rather than a "clumper" - case in point - at one point my 14 yo daughter carrried to following dx's. BP type 1, ADD, ODD, Tourette Syndrome and PTSD. Aspergers in and by itself encompasses all of these symptoms (I was given a book to borrow from my psychiatrist) and it is very clear about it. It is however helpful to have the split dxs as subtypes so that whoever is dealing with your child understand the symptomology as it were. midnightshadow10 <nettysmith10@...> wrote: Hello Everyone,I havn't been on the group for a long time now, due to personal circumstances, but i have a dilemma and not sure where to start serching for the best. Netty,

What do you feel in your gut is your son's disability?Depending on the Dr.'s

experience & own interest that is what they will diagnose.I have 2 asd kids

who also have add & adhd.I have had mulitiple evals to help with the school

situation. All evals are slightly different based on the psych,so they

attribute symptoms to their area of specialty.

Hello Everyone,

I havn't been on the group for a long time now, due to personal

circumstances, but i have a dilemma and not sure where to start

serching for the best. My son BJ age 9 yrs was diagnosed with

aspergers and semantic pragmatic disorder a few yrs back, now i have

just found out that he hasn't got this at all. Its ADHD and Tourette's

syndrome. I just dont know how to explain to my partner how i feel

about it all because i feel devastated all over again, not sure if

that is possible but i do. I don't even know which is the best site to

start looking at the information about the tourette's. Can anybody out

there advise me PLEASE.

ADHD and Aspergers can occur together. They also have behaviours in common,

although maybe the behaviours occur for a different reason in each. How

qualified was the person making the diagnosis to rule out Aspergers? Did

they check for both, or simply stop when they found something that fitted

most of the problems? How much do you trust the previous diagnosis?

Netty At this point i don't really know what dx. my son actually

has as he has so many symptoms. he could likely be dx. with 15

different ones. I relate better to parents with kids with aspegers

usually over adhd kids. I suppose because my son is so socially

awkward. The reason we do need labels is to learn where too find

info. The schools need them to help them program.

I have heard that adhd may be added to the autism spectrum. They

are both neurologically based.

>>I was convinced my son had aspergers, he still shows alot of resemblences

now but great ormand street said what we have told them it is aspergers but

what they've seen on videos its tourettes<<

So the most likely thing is that he has ASD and Tourettes. It is very hard

to establish where a 'stim' becomes a 'tic' and there is a huge amount of

overlap between the two. Different doctors will have different opinions.

GOSH are not experts on everything, and you would probably have got

different opinions from different doctors there. You might want to seek a

referral to the NAS diagnostic service at Elliot House.

For now you need to work on getting him the appropriate help at school. It

doesn't actually matter what his dx is, or even if he has one, for this

because they need to be looking at him as an individual and giving help

tailored to him.

Focus on him as being a person with ASD and the nervous ticks. First and foremost, he is a human being and person. I hope the MDs are able to find meds that will benefit him. in Minnesota, USA Rowell <nancy@...> wrote: >>I was convinced my son had aspergers, he still shows alot of resemblencesnow but great ormand street said what we have told them it is aspergers butwhat they've seen on videos its tourettes<<So the most likely thing is that he has ASD and Tourettes. In addition to that, there is the Tourette Syndrome Association - I get their newsletter. I did find that my daughters tics subsided greatly over time - in 3rd - 5th grade they were REALLY bad - interfering with her ability to write and so forth, but now you only see them when she is really nervous.jeanette smith <nettysmith10@...> wrote: Hi Dandyliondawn,Thankyou for replying. I see your in the same dilema has myself. At the moment i still haven't cried, because mt partner seems tothink that it's a step forward in knowing whats wrong, but i don't see it like that wished i could.BJ has been fine on his meds so far, so im lucky with that.I will def let you know if i find some tourette web sites that are any good.Take care and best wishes with your stuggle tooNetty

called " kids in the Syndrome Mix of ADHD,ld,aspeger's,Tourettes,

bipolar, and more. by L.kulscher md it also has

contributions from Tony Attwood, r. Wolff, and Dr. Rosse
