Rep. (R-CT) Will Switch His Vote on Budget Reconciliation to ?NO?

Seven Days Left - Urge Your House Member To Follow ? Lead

Grassroots efforts to derail the upcoming vote on the Budget

Reconciliation Conference Report are having a positive effect. Just

yesterday, Representative (R-CT), a target of The Arc and

UCP?s grassroots advocacy efforts, announced that he will be switching

his vote to ?NO? when Congress returns for its second workday of the

Second Session (February 1). Here is a brief statement from ?

office about his decision.

Announces His Opposition To Feb. 1 Budget Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Rob , R-2nd District, today announced

that he will oppose the nearly $40 billion budget bill scheduled for

a vote on Feb. 1. The Second District lawmaker released the

following statement:

" I opposed the original House budget in November because I knew it

could be, and should be, improved. The budget that was drafted in

the House-Senate Conference was a better budget and I voted for it

in December.

" Since then I have met with and listened to a wide range of

constituents regarding the details of the proposed changes. The

consensus is that the bill, despite the improvements, remains

unsatisfactory. Consequently, I have decided to vote against the

budget on February 1. "

Less than seven days away, the Budget Reconciliation Conference Report

will come to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote. The

final outcome will decide the future of human services programs and

policies important to people with disabilities. One of the disability

community?s top priorities this year is defeating this dreadful bill,

which contains provisions for cutting almost $40 billion over five years

to human service entitlement spending.

If this bill passes, the House Republicans leaders will be responsible

for reversing decades of progress made improving the policies and

programs that affect the lives of people with disabilities and their

families nationwide.

We cannot let that happen, the fight isn?t over yet, and Members of the

House can still be convinced to vote against the Budget Reconciliation

Conference Report. Rep. ? example is proof.

TAKE ACTION NOW!! Make a toll-free call to your Member of the House of

Representatives at (800) 426-8073 and tell him/her about why the Budget

Reconciliation Conference Report is so bad for people with disabilities.

your House member:

* As your constituent, I urge you to follow Congressman Bob

of Connecticut?s lead and reject the Budget Reconciliation

Conference Report.

* People with disabilities and their families rely on Medicaid,

TANF, SSI and other human services programs and this report

contains numerous damaging provisions that would cut these

programs and services, putting the lives of these poorest, most

vulnerable Americans with disabilities in jeopardy;

* Please don?t reverse decades of progress made towards improving

these critical programs and services for Americans with

disabilities who need them the most;

* Like your fellow Congressman Bob , please vote ?No? on the

Budget Reconciliation Conference Report; and

* Thank you.
