Saying I find that you can add those Offender Foods back in occasionally, and that we personally are suspecting that the GREASE ie in potato chips (ie lays which ARE GFCF-"OK") is a gut problem-creator. The POTATOES are OK, but the grease/oil in those porcessed foods like this is diff to digest. OK? Same experience here, with chips on the OK list for Feingold.

Reactions anyway.

Re. the grease in chips, what "reactions" do you see? Are you talking behavioral or physical like loose stools, distended belly, etc? Just curious. We are SCD w/the exception of potatoes and yes, chips. My kids don't seem to have any negative physical symptoms from them but I am wondering what issues you all are having. Thanks! Dana R.

Only behavioral -- snarling fury, that kind of thing. But that's his

reaction to everything he doesn't tolerate.

physical like loose stools, distended belly, etc like you say----mine is pretty well SET except for teh gastro/diet stuff, the Final Frontier. The molecular structure of potatoes is just a mess. The protien is so long it

makes it

impossible to digest it all. The grease might be an added problem but the

potatoes are

essentially undigestible sugar.... a dinner party for yeast and bacteria.

OK, you are quite the character fresh off vacation! So, wheat and barley and rye and oats and corn are all on YOUR NO LIST, OK that is clear. SO WHAT DO YOU FEED YOUR SPECIAL CHILD ON A DAILY BASIS??????????? You are free with the NO NO's and potato putdowns, so pray tell what you approve of---I still contend that there are PLENTY of gfcf, other ASD kids who eat potato chips and french fries! WHAT ARE NOT molecular messes? Thanks a molecular million.Stan Kurtz <stankurtz@...> wrote: The

My son has been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for 20 weeks (as well as being

casein-free and on Feingold Stage 2). SCD means no gluten, no soy, no corn, no

potatoes, no rice, no sugar, no " new " grains like quinoa (one of our favorites

from plain ol' GFCF days).

The book Breaking the Vicious Cycle contains recipe and menu ideas. Here's a

sampling of what my son does eat: muffins made with almond flour or pecan bread

with natural peanut butter for breakfast, spaghetti squash with marinara sauce

for lunch, fresh fruits for snacks, turkey and broccoli for dinner. Homemade

smoothies and popsicles and blended frozen bananas as " ice cream " for desserts.

It gets boring (though now that my son's stomach is better, he is trying

salad/raw vegetables, too), but we've thrown in pancakes and pizzas and cookies

(again, all made with nut flours or nut butters). I know that some try to

restrict fruits, too, but I don't think we could keep my son happy and healthy

that way.

I'm not posting to try to persuade anyone to go this route. I just wanted to

give you an idea of what SCD looks like in one house. I'm a lousy cook, and my

son LOVED his white rice and Cascadian Farms french fries as much as any kid

could. We're making do, though. No big " wows " developmentally, but my son's

digestive system is clearly functioning properly for the first time in years.

He's more comfortable, and he's had a growth spurt besides. We're hoping that

his gut is healing and that he'll turn into a " responder " as a result.
