Hi Sara, So your child starting playing with spit after he started Valtrex? Mine started (and won't stop) after we put him on a GF/CF diet. We stopped the diet but the spitting does not end. I feel we woke up a dormant virus. Anyway, how do you stop this thing? Do you think the valtrex will stop this? Thak you.Brett & Sara Reider <thereiderfamily@...> wrote: Hi Tracey,My

son is 2.5 and started 250 mg of Valtrex, 3 times a day - 6 days ago. He is having the emotional episodes as well. The hands in the mouth - playing with spit really caught my eye. He is doing this too, having never done it before. His zinc levels are good. We are also not seeing any gains from Valtrex yet. No rash, fever, etc. I think we'll stay with it about a month and drop it if we don't see improvement by that time.I wanted to mention that we gave LDN a try. After about 3 months being on a very low dose - my son lost his appetite. It is known to have this side effect in non-autistic patients. It was odd how it happened after being on it for 3 months with no problem. However, once we stopped - appetite came back within 3 days. McCandless told me that she does not see appetite loss in most autistic kids on LDN - and when she does, she thinks it is a sign that they do not need to be on it. So, we are not.You may want to

look into the LDN as the source of the appetite problem.Best wishes,Sara

Hi Abid,

Yes - my son started doing this as soon as we started the Valtrex. We are no

longer on the

diet, so I know that isn't the cause for us. I have no idea how to stop it - we

are as high as

I am comfortable with on Zinc (60 mg for a 31 lb. child). I would love for it to

be virus -

then I'd know the Valtrex is working. Perhaps it will pass as we continue on

Valtrex and

clear the virus out. We have no other signs of viral activity.

Best wishes to you,

Sara

Sara, I really think it is a virus. This started in January of this year. We tried everything other than valtrex to stop it. We treated for yeast and thrush -- no help, he just keeps spitting and playing with it. We have done numerous time-outs -- this slowed down the spitting but he still does it. We stopped MB12 -- no help. The list goes on ... I read that some viruses have a side-effect of causing spitting. Next month, we will start valtrex. Please, please let me know if your childs spitting comes to an end with valtrex. Folks, I really believe the spitting is connected fungus. There is

a smaller chance (IMO) that it's viral, metals, or sensory

related... I really believe it's a reaction to raised levels of

untreated fungus which happens all too often when using Valtrex

without an antifungal onboard.

with gf/cf people often increase rice milk or complex carbs which

feed clostridia for example... then comes mucus to push it away from

the intestinal wall... then comes mucus in the mouth... then comes

spitting...

Just my take on it.

Stan, My son is not using Valtrex yet but will next month. However, he does spit. I can't be sure if this is just a stimming of some sort but I sense that he can't totally help it. If this is a fungal issue -- he is on Nizoral but still spits. Perhaps I should double the dosage? Thank you!Stan Kurtz <stankurtz@...> wrote: Folks, I really believe the spitting is connected fungus. There is a smaller
