Tracey,

The Dr. sounds

like he/she is talking about sackie virus, which is a related herpes

virus. It’s a KICK butt virus and my son had it 7 times. Very

sore throat, my kids wont eat on it and it lasts a good while. The 1st

4 to 5 days are the worst but the whole virus lasts 2 weeks. I would not give ibuprophen. My Doctor

has always told me to stay away from ibuprophen during this virus because it

can take the sores down into the stomach because ibuprophen is so hard on the

stomach. A fever of 101 does not need to be reduced unless it

goes over 102. My kids were all very high 104-5 with this virus.

Tepid baths in the middle of the night and during the day, cold compresses,

push fluids like clear pedialyte, all helped. Chronic coxaxkie is how I

got my GI to prescribe valtrex. I do not like to give any advice on

treatments as I am not a Dr. I just wanted to let you know my experiences

with this virus and what my Dr. expressed about it. Please make sure you

stay in touch with your Dr. and continue to bring him in especially if he is lethargic.

Good luck Tracey and please let us know how it goes. -

STAN.HELP URGENT! DESPERATE!

stan,

if i missed your response to this post by accidentally deleting it,

i'm sorry. i don't think i did as i've been checking almost hourly

but again, if i did i'm sorry.

my son, nick, has been on valtrex since july 10th. that makes it 36

days. this past friday, he came home from school with a fever of

101. over the last week and a half, he has lost his appetite almost

completely. it has even been difficult to get him to drink but, he

seems to be keeping enough fluids in now. his throat appears to be

very sore and he cries whenever he attempts to swallow. he wakes up

now every morning between 3-4am crying, sobbing and whining almost

like a puppy, as if he's in pain or the very least, discomfort.

i noticed that everytime i gave nick his valtrex pill, he would

spike a fever within an hour. all of his symptoms seemed to worsen,

as well. his last dose of valtrex was sunday morning when i made

the correlation between the fever and the valtrex. his fever is

gone since stopping the valtrex but his other symptoms are still

there. he is still eating very, very little and still wakes crying

and sobbing. he is still pretty lethargic at times during the day

and even when he's not lethargic, he's much more sedentary than

normal.

i don't know what to do. i took him to his pediatrician yesterday

to rule out any ear infections. she said his ears were clear and

that there is a virus going around that causes ulcers/sores on the

throat and mouth. she said she didn't see any ulcers in his throat

but that he had a red spot on one of his lips so he probably has the

virus. she said it would explain his pain when he eats. but, why

everything else?? could this really be a virus that's going around

or is it just her diagnosis because she has no idea about valtrex

and/or it's side efeects?? why would his fever spike after taking

the valtrex?? should i continue it despite that reaction?? i

really need your help, stan. i've waited all weekend in complete

desperation, panic, worry and concern for nick. i have never seen

him like this before. on saturday, he was so sick that he never

moved from the floor for 13 hours straight. i actually had to carry

him to the bathroom.

i don't mind giving himb the valtrex and dealing with all of this if

it sounds like the right thing to do. but, i don't know. nick is

his DAN dr.'s first patient taking the valtrex for this reason so he

is not familiar yet with these reactions. i am depending greatly on

your response to this as i am lost, scared and worried beyond

belief. i feel as if i'm losing my son. he looks terrible. he's

not himself and seems to be so uncomfortable. i am well aware that

there is the regression period. if this is it and it's normal and

expected, i'll put the brave face on and get through it. but, i

need some direction from you first.

fyi.. nick is also taking LDN and has been since november with nice

gains and no noticable negative side effects. however, i've read

some posts lately about LDN interfering with valtrex and could

possible cause appetite loss. are you aware of this? if so, could

it cause appetite loss now even though it hasn't before? should i

stop it while he's on the valtrex?

here's what he's taking now:

all 3 of houston's

enzymes w/ every meal. (alternative to GFCF)

brainchild's minerals

LDN

diflucan

milk thistle

magnesium citrate

primal defense

coromega

valtrex (up until sunday morning)

sorry for the long post but, in case you can't tell, i'm desperate.

thank you,

tracey

Yeah, sackie is BAD. Do you know if it's checked on any viral

panels? My NT-but-mercury-poisoned daughter got sackie three years

in a row, and I'm wondering if I should put her on Valtrex too.

I don’t know if there is a viral

panel for it. I was researching one day last year, and found a site the

said coxsackie is a misdiagnosis for the cold sore virus in most cases. And

could be treated with Acyclovir. Now I’ve seen many places refer to

it as a herpes virus outright. It made a lot of sense to me, the sores

for my kids were all down the throat. My son had an immediate response to

the valtrex with all of the rashes, cold sores and viruses, mixed with

gains. I didn’t do a panel because I was positive about him being a

viral kid. He started to regress with physical symptoms right after MMR

and 5 days later had the roseola rash (herpes). I have an NT daughter

with mild memory recall who also got asckie many times. I am now

thinking her viral status also needs to be addressed. I’m going to

start OLE, B6 with magnesium and a yeast protocol on her shortly. She is

one of those kids who has severe reactions to mosquito bites. -

Tracey,

Stan is out of town on a much overdue

vacation. It sounds like your child has a virus. It could be something he just picked up or it could be something related to the Valtrex. Keep him hydrated,

give Ibuprofen for the fever, and watch him carefully. It will likely pass.

Sorry Tracey. I'm still traveling so I'm not getting to all my posts.

As Pam mentioned, it does look like you are kicking up a virus, which

is typically a good thing. I would ride it out. The symptoms you

are describing are very similar to many before you.

If it were me I would keep going past the fever as long as it doesn't

go up beyond 102... something like that. What you are describing is

very typical for the healing-regression and will pass either by just

waiting it out or if you decide to stop the Valtrex you child will

return back to where he was before you started (according to all

reports we've had in the group).

In order for your child to improve, sometimes you need to get through

a healing crisis and that's exactly what it sounds like he's going

through... many families even pray for a healing-regression...

really... they wish their child would respond to the therapy. In

your case, he is... if you ask me... and I would keep going. It

should only be a few more days of fever... typically. I would hold

on, get as much fluids in him as you can... even baby food if you

need to... stay in touch with your doctor... and keep us updated.

If the sores are from the herpes virus (my son has had these come up

off and on during chelation and then again soon after Valtrex) then

Lysine may help. I don't know if these sores can be within the body

as well, they might make for a painful situation in the GI tract, it

might be why he is reluctant to eat. Is his liver doing okay?
