Guest guest
So the veggie burgers were ok ? I can no longer eat beef ( high ammonia in the blood) and am looking into an alternative . It's so great to see you have taken your diatetes diagnosis without complaint and are changing you and your family's eating habits . I don't know if I could be as gracious as you about not having sugar ,lol xoxoxo Veggie burgers-OT In a effort to get my family to eat better, I slipped some veggie burgers on the grill tonight. They tasted pretty good, I couldn't tell the difference. But the girls could. They were what is this ?(I think they could tell it wasn't real meat, because of the consistency). Dang! Although, I have taken to buying the no sugar added or sugar free ice cream and that has made a hit in the family. They like it better!! As well as the sugar free cookies!! Did you know that you can use apple juice as a sugar replacement in cake, bread and muffin recipes?? I didn't know that? I always considered apple juice as not being sweet enough to satisfy my sugar craving family. I am trying to cut all white sugar out of my families diets. And provide a healthier alternative to it. Just decided since I am the main cook in this house, and I buy all the groceries I am going to provide a better diet for the family. Even got hubbie on the ball. Tonight I sent him to the store to get me some whole grain hamburger buns, He came home with some baked lowfat , low sodium chips to go with the burgers. He has learned to read labels. What a accomplishment!!! Course his dad died of heart disease and cancer, so he a little worried about his diet to some extent. Truth be known I don't think he wants me to out live him. LOL I am just trying to keep the girls out of my diet drinks, they like mine better than their drinks. Dang it. Love JanetTake the ordinary things of life, and make them your own. Guest guest
Some may not agree, but I think sauteed tofu is awesome and a great alternative to chicken. Plus, soy protein is very healthy for us, much better than animal protein and easily digested. Of course, no one in my house besides me will eat it...sigh... > > So the veggie burgers were ok ? Guest guest
I love soy milk in place of regular milk,,, and tofu in miso soup is great! never had it sauteed,, Ill have to try it,, but the one thing with soy is that is raises the hormone levels in our bodies and that can be a problem for some.. not all, but for some,, THERE ARE some B vitamins that one can ONLY get in red meat tho as well,, or in braggs amino's,, that have the full complement of essential and non essential amino's which are VERY important for liver function and to help the liver make its own glutathione which is a nutrient which is one of the most important for the liver.. too many carbs can make things worse especially if you have any risk of diabetes which tend to go hand in hand with Hcvmarvindamartian05 <marvindamartian05@...> wrote: Some may not agree, but I think sauteed tofu is awesome and a great alternative to chicken. Guest guest
Tofu sounds icky , lol I am on a protein restricted diet , if I eat foods high in protein then I end up with more ammonia in my blood . Hepatic encephlaphy is the end result of to much blood ammonia , and it can be life threatening . Guest guest
The veggie burgers were good, just remember to dress them up with lots of goodies, tomatoes, etc. As far as being without complaint, I just don't want to end up like my sister or father. Jane my sister now uses a wheel chair because of the diabetes. My father went blind because of glaucoma and diabetes. They were good role models of what not to do.
