Guest guest
Hi Norah honey Yes, Vit A and Iron are both hard on your livers especially with hep c... but you do need some vit a but you can get that through your food sources and not through supplements. Prenatals are probably ok IF you can find one that does not have iron in it.. the ONLY time you want to take iron is when your doc can verify that your anemia is caused by iron deficiency and they have to check your FERRITIN level and not just assume that if you are anemic that its from lack of iron.. MY INSURANCE company tried that with my doc when I was on tx,, and was so anemic, my hemoglobin was sitting at 7.0 and rbcs were 1.0 and they told my doc to give me iron supplements instead of procrit,, well my ferritin level came back at 717 and that was critically high and had they done that, I might have died... and it would have ruined my chances to reach sustained virological response.... stupid insurance person,, probably someone with an 8th grade education trying to tell my doc how to treat me...lol YES, smoking is almost as bad as drinking for your liver,, the nicotine has to be cleared through the liver. Liver cancer as well as bladder cancer can directly be related to smoking just as lung cancer can. So if you smoke, please try to stop if you can... I quit smoking 24 years ago and I have never regretted it and I think thats why I am not sitting on a transplant list right now... Honey, there is NO stupid question,, so you ask away,, thats what we are here for!!! hugs jaxnorah2386 <norah2386@...> wrote: Hi allI read an article that having Hep C one has to careful in taking multi-vit. Guest guest
The problem with prenatal vitamins is they contain high levels of iron , and for us heppers iron can be an issue . If you are pregnant then make sure the doc checks for anemia before you take the prenatals , cause any extra iron is damaging . Smoking increases the rate of fibrosis in the liver , although I am a smoker and will continue to do so lol What about Multi-Vitimans (sp) Hi allI read an article that having Hep C one has to careful in taking multi-vit. Guest guest
Hi Norah, Smoking and drinking are both very bad for your liver.. I've been told caffeine is also bad.. I just heard that too much Vitamin C was bad because it binds the iron? and iron is bad for the liver. I hadn't heard a thing about Vitamin A.. As tired as we all are, even those of us not on trestment, I can't imagine not taking some kind of vitamins, but that's a good question.. Hang in, I'm a newbie, too.. Guest guest
Be very careful about Vitamin A. It is toxic in high doses to all, and as it is not a water soluble vitamin, it builds up in the liver. IIt is so toxic that it can cause liver failure and death. You should be able to get all of the Vit A you need from a healthy diet, eating lost of foods with beta-carotene (the pre-cursor to Vitamin A). > Hi all > > I read an article that having Hep C one has to careful in taking > multi-vit. Guest guest
"Reasonable amounts of caffeine ARE PROTECTIVE against Liver CANCER hon,, but the reason they dont want you to drink a lot while on tx is that it dehydrates you so you must drink an equal and extra amount of water for each cup of caffeine you take in... I know what you mean about not taking some kind of vitamins,, some docs really hate vitamins and its because they dont know much about them,,, but as long as you only take in a reasonable amount and make sure no iron and vit A,, you should be ok hugs jaxSheena <mom4possums2002@...> wrote: Hi Norah, Smoking and drinking are both very bad for your liver.. Guest guest
Norah,, low iron is MUCH BETTER than high iron!!! count your blessings,, you will have a better chance of clearing with tx!norah2386 <norah2386@...> wrote: Now I really have to go see my MD... because I have low Iron...Man.. I am a true mess...LOL I have hep C Low Iron and I smoke...LOL well at least I could laugh about it... LOL LOL LOL >> The problem with prenatal vitamins is they contain high levels of iron , and for us heppers iron can be an issue . If you are pregnant then make sure the doc checks for anemia before you take the prenatals , cause any extra iron is damaging . Smoking increases the rate of fibrosis in the liver , although I am a smoker and will continue to do so lol> What about Multi-Vitimans (sp)> > > Hi all> > I read an article that having Hep C one has to careful in taking > multi-vit.
