Guest guest
Hi, I have a 13 year old Aspie. He is in 7th grade. He struggles getting started with writing assignments even though his teacher say that when he writes it is far above grade level. Its just a battle getting him started. Once he starts its easy for him. Just those first words on the page...Does anyone have ideas for me to try? Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , My son is 10 and we also struggle with this, first off you need to decide why he is struugling with it or if it is combination of things. Our son for instance, does not like to write, has troubble staying on task, cant spell very well and finally cant decide what to write about. We use his strengths: he loves to race the clock, he prefers to type rather than write and he has very good ideas. If he cant get started we intice him with a few good subjects for him and help him to draft a few ideas before he begins. We then start a timer with a reward if he finishes it on time, and occasional he gets to use the spell checker. Hope this helps. > > Hi, I have a 13 year old Aspie. He is in 7th grade. Guest guest
Hi If he has problems with organization then it might be worth giving him a pile of those post-it sticky notes. He can write the different ideas on separate notes, then organize them before he starts, then throw each one away as he gets the idea incorporated. If the problem is just getting going then a time limit for when he has to have the first word on the page might help. You can get egg timers in various sizes for different time intervals. If he is concerned about making a mistake and not wanting that on his page it might be an idea to give him thinking paper or a thinking jotter for rough work, with the other paper for his presented work. Just a few ideas, following on from Candy's suggestions. Regards Re: Homework struggles Hi , My son is 10 and we also struggle with this, first off you need to decide why he is struugling with it or if it is combination of things. Guest guest
My 14 year old has the same problem (says he's thinking about what to write) and we found that if he is able to use the computer to write the assignment it helps a lot. He struggles with the actual writing process sometimes and the task seems overwhelming to him. With the computer he seems to be able to think more and get more written. > > Hi, I have a 13 year old Aspie. He is in 7th grade. Still had problems and most assignments were done the last possible moment, but I did OK. I have hit a bit of a brick wall now though - the PhD application has to be *all* handwritten. I am nearly finished - and it has only taken me 6 weeks so far I always break things down - just think of writing the introduction, then making one point at a time. If I think of everything that has to be done, it won't get done. I live life that way too. You just have to find ways of doing what you need to do.
