Guest guest
Every Pedi and Autism specialist that I have spoken with has told me that this is not possible. They tell me that the two disorders are mutually exclusive. I have noticed that depending on where one lives in the world, alot of Aspies are dually diagnosed with ADHD in order ti get them medicated so that the schools can better "deal" with them. Some of my kids so-called educators have tried say that my kids are ADHD as well as Aspies but until my kid's Pedi tells me otherwise(insert"when H--L freezes over") I chose to believe her rather that someone who has NO medical background. Just my 2 cents. MonteLaha1960@... wrote: In a message dated 3/25/2006 11:24:07 A.M. Central Standard Time, Autism and Aspergers Treatment writes: all of you. There are many people who think that ADHD is part of the autistic spectrum although I would have to disagree with that. It seems to me that the evidence at the moment is that ADHD is a neurotransmitter problem (hence medication helps), whereas ASD is differences in number and type of brain cells, and their connections, (hence there is no medication and no need of any). I think there are some with ASD who are incorrectly given the additional dx of AD(H)D because some aspects look similar - but they arise for different reasons. in England

Much misdiagnosis of ADHD happens because of a focus on the " hyperactivity " part and not the ADD portion. ADHD can co-exist with Aspergers, according to my son's psychiatrist. In fact ADHD, Bipolar and Asperger's are a common combination ... which my son has all three. And when Bipolar does not occur with Asperger's it is still very common to have depression just because of the nature of Asperger's. I do agree with many people that ADHD is over-medicated, but too many think it should never be medicated, which I strongly disagree with ... you have to evaluate on a case by case basis, with an open mind. Guest guest
Are you talking about high functioning autistics can't also have adhd? or Anyone on the autism spectrum can't have adhd? or ADHD as a diagnosis can not be combined with AS? Please explain as I have many concerns about this concerning my children. Guest guest
Hi , thanks for your post. What my friend told me: the diagnosis is ADHD with AS symtoms or behaviors. The therapist said: The children is ADHD bad treated and has AS behaviors. The thing is I dont know exactly which behaviors she is talking about. As far as I know and understand ADHD it's comorbid in the way that the children are so concentrated or focused when they are doing something that they dont pay attention, as well, in other moments they are disruptive, that's when is part of AS, I supose. Well in fact, is a type of ADHD they are so focused on what they are doing that the children do not attent to other people when they talk to them, but I have never heard ADHD with AS behaviors, have you ever heard this diagnosis? I hope I could explained more clearly my question.
