Guest guest
Hello Group, It's about time I introduced myself and my family. This will be the one day I can do this as I typically have 15 minutes in the morning to log on and read while munching toast before I leave for work, not to return home for 12 hours or more. I am , hubby is Bob and son is . Hubby and I are well into our middle age with a just-turned-9 year old son who has Autism and global delays. So far he is mainstreamed into regular school with full time 1:1 aide for the whole day. Seems to be going alright, he is about a year to year and half behind in curriculum, but a few years behind socially. I was very interested to read a recent post here about social groups and how so many of our kids do better interacting with a person of a different age than their own. This gives me ideas to link or son with an older fellow as a mentor perhaps. Basically with work I see my son for 2 hours in the evening, hubby has him for 2 hours in the morning and weekends depend on what we are all doing. The rest of my son's day is either at school or afterschool with a great woman in licenced in home day care. is blossoming this year more than others, despite the reduced time we spend together. And his behaviour has improved, knock on wood as the teen years and hormone wackiness approaches. HA! He is adapting very well to all the different "rule sets" as each place has it's schedule and expectations. For example, Libby, who cares for him afterschool is very big on hand washing more often than we worry about here at home, all her own children have chores so now our boy wants some here. YEAH! School has issues that all schools have that are different from home and Libby's house (after school). can manage a them pretty well I think, so far. We have a cat, Periwinkle, who stays pretty much away from as he is un kind to her this makes her a nervous kitty when he is home, but she can still find some affection for us. Perhaps a dog would have been better choice as a pet for us all. from time to time wants a dog, despite his fear of them in general.
