Guest guest
I'm not sure what you doctor things, so I would take that into consideration, but at that weight if that were my child I would dose 500mg three times a day at the most... but maybe your doctor knows more than I do about this. I would take one day off... then go back to 500mg three times a day making sure there is a really good antifungal onboard like diflucan or nizoral. The other option is to press on since you are seeing a croupy cough... the cough is a good sign. I would need more details to give you a specific direction that I would go. How long has the regression been? Are there any fungal signs? Are there mixed gains inside the regression or is this just a pure regressive looking state? Do you have an antifungal onboard? - Stan > > > > Well it seems that from reading the past posts that we are now in a > > healing regression. > > > > Started Valtrex and diflucan 4 weeks ago. Guest guest
Thank you Stan.. Yes we have diflucan at the same time. I have seen some yeasty stuff going on still - little bumps on his butt which is his sign of yeast. He did say he had some redness around the crotch area, but I couldn't see it as a rash. We saw initial gains in attitude, social, and self-control (temper and his body) in the first 1-1 1/2 weeks of diflucan and valtrex (started them at the same time). Then I ran out of Valtrex for 2 days, saw regression, got the valtrex back and saw improvements. The doc increased to 1000mg 2 x per day. He has been on that dose for 3 weeks now and in the last 2 weeks ago the runny nose and cough started. And the cough is staying. It's kind of a croupy / bronchitis kind of cough. Starting on Friday is when the regression really kicked in and yesterday was the all time worst. I have Dr. W in CA and he is great about listening to the parents. If you think that 500 mg 3 x would be better for him, then he'll listen. The cough and regression didn't start until we switched to 1000 mg 2 x per day. Previously we were at 500 mg 2 x per day. He's holding on to his gains academically, but the regression part is a lot of behavioral oh and sensory. I hope this was enough information to help. Thank you Stan for your response. Guest guest
We're giving 2 x per day 1000 mg. BUT per DAN doc and due to Stan's suggestion, we are trying 500mg 3 x per day and see what happens. Yesterday was bad too and today didn't start out horrible, but he's definitely off kilter. Our DAN says not to call it a healing "regression" , call it something like "healing agitation" . Because he's not really regressing and that word puts the fear of God into all of us doesn't it. Wish me luck, hopefully he'll level out soon. His cough is starting to get better and now he's got some red splotches on his arms. Tami

Guest guest
Well...he hasn't lost any of the academic gains that he has gained over the last year. He is just more moody, on edge, ready to tantrum. He even says he doesn't know what's going on with him. He started talking baby talk, when I told him to talk like a 9 yr old, he said "ok fine, I just think it's more fun to be a baby". The cognition is there, I just think he's reverting back a bit, but he knows he's doing it and doesn't know why. Does that make sense?? Guest guest
is 9 and 67 lbs. Our DAN had started him on 500 mg 2 x per day then upped it to 1000mg 2 x per day when we saw good results. Stan had mentioned doing 500 mg 3 x per day and I ran it by our DAN and he agreed to try it for 3 weeks and see. Just picked up and he got 7 out of 8 stars today ( reward system) Wheewww! He had been getting 3-4 for the last week and when we saw gains was getting 7 or 8 each time which was incredible for him. I hope this is the start of his agitation subsiding!! Tami, we are day 12 on Valtrex and my son is exactly like that: on the edge all the time, very emotional and impulsive. I was thinking gut bugs but these are not his classical symptoms of gut bugs. He also says he cannot control it. Afterward, he says he is sorry he behaved that way, tears in his eyes. This is very unsusal for him. I have seen more crying the past week than I have seen in one year! Let me know if you find something to help with this. Thanks,

Guest guest
I don't think that sounds like regression, I think it sounds like the same anxiety that most kids go through at this age. My nt sons started asking for baby bottles when they were 9-10, to suck on before bedtime (I let them do it, but offered lots of hugs and quality attention during the day. It passes in about a month). Our kids live in this scary word, and 9 is just about the time when they start to get frightened by TV and gossip at school. If anything, I think your son has made huge emotional gains. Give him a hug for me and please keep him away from TV news programs.
