Guest guest
Hi there Yes, its hard to know what is real and what isnt but what I can tell you is that a good milk thistle product is worth taking. Milk Thistle is a known anti-inflammatory and I KNOW from my own use that my lfts dropped by HALF when I started taking it before I did treatment. I had to wait for my treatment meds cuz when I was diagnosed there was a huge waiting list for meds so I started with the MT before with the approval of my doc and I BELIEVE that it really helped me to clear the virus. I was told that I had only a 10-15 % chance of even responding to tx and virtually NO CHANCE of reaching SVR and I DID both. BUT, you have to find a good "standardized" form of MT and I only know 2 that I place any weight on. The siliphos bound milk thistle is the best and has been found to be 8-10times MORE EFFECTIVE than simple silymarin. I can send you an article via private email if you wish regarding the different forms of MT and what is the best or you can go to his website and read it yourself.www.doctormurray.com its in the archieved section. Its written by Dr. Murray. The 2 formulations that have THIS siliphos bound are Maximum Milk Thistle and a product called Liver Essentials by Unicity Network which is the old Rexall corp. I know many who take the Maximum Milk Thistle as it is a bit cheaper than the Liver Essentials but the MMT doesnt have the other good herbs in it like the Liver Essentials. Both are standardized. You can read about them and make up your own mind if you want to take Milk Thistle. But I can honestly say that I do not know anyone who took Milk Thistle with treatment who failed. I am sure that there are some out there but I just dont know anyone who failed tx who took a good siliphos bound MT. I DO however know several who didnt take milk thistle and did fail treatment. The docs used to say that they didnt want you to take it while on treatment because they were afraid it would skew the labtests.. I just laugh at that because I believe that when they were saying this, they really didnt want anything but the treatment to work,, and if the MT helped, there was no way they could market it..but Im a skeptical person when it comes to the Drug companies. I have studied natural medicine and I just believe in Milk Thistle and I BELIEVE that taking it is one the reasons that I did CLEAR and remain clear more than 3 years after finishing treatment. jaxsrahn51 <srahn51@...> wrote: I've heard alot about the herbel treatment. milk thistle..I've searched the web about this ..but i'm a little skepticle of all that i read about it,most of the info is from venders that want to sell it to you..thus..the testimonials are all "glowing" about it's affectivness..i would like to hear from anyone in the group that has tried it..and to what effect...thank you all for your support... Guest guest
Hi Sonny, check out this site if you want to try a high quality standardized milk thistle http://us.naturalfactors.com/search.asp it will tell you where it is sold in your area. (I don't like being at the mercy of vendors on-line. I tried that once with Liver Essentials only to find when I needed to reorder they were out of stock and couldn't ship for 2 weeks. So I found Natural Factors Standardized Milk Thistle Phytosome™ ) Just follow the links. There are several independent dealers in my home town, I bet you can find it in your town too. What's it doing for me? I don't know. I do know I have a lot of faith in the folks I put my trust in, who know more about herbs than I do, and they aren't trying to sell me anything, they just want to help me. I've had Hep for the past 20+ years and have not yet tried TX. (I'm hoping for an easier, softer way than what we have now to come along.) So in the mean time I don't drink alcohol/or use street drugs, I try to eat well and just take good care of myself. I think good nutrition is the key, lots of water, and standardized milk thistle. I also like a green food called Green Vibrance which I mix with flax meal. I think you're asking the right questions, get street wise, learn what you can, take what works for you now, and keep an open mind for all the rest that will come along later. Hope that helps you, Rick.srahn51 <srahn51@...> wrote: I've heard alot about the herbel treatment. milk thistle..I've searched the web about this ..but i'm a little skepticle of all that i read about it,most of the info is from venders that want to sell it to you..thus..the testimonials are all "glowing" about it's affectivness..i would like to hear from anyone in the group that has tried it..and to what effect...thank you all for your support... Guest guest
Hi Rick Wow! Im sorry you had to wait for Liver Essentials, I still use it and never in the 5 years I have been ordering it have I ever been told they were out or had to wait. What is this other product like? Does it have the same ingredients in it? Ill have to look. I used the Liver Essentials and it brought my lfts down by half before I started tx.. Guest guest
Hi Rick, Thanks for the info. I just finished a few weeks ago with 16 weeks of Pegasys/Ribivirin. Did not respond! =-( Will wait and like you hopefully something better will come along. I just went to the site you shared and found it. The directions say take one capsule. Is that 1 a day? Guest guest
Hi Joyce, for the most part I take 1 cap, 3 times a day, Some times I take 2 in the morning when I feel the "more is better" urge come across me, but the instructions say to take 1 cap, 3 - 9 times a day. I get the idea that it's hard to go wrong and hurt yourself with this stuff, but that it's important to at least take the minimum amount suggested. Keep the faith, Rick. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I am getting ready to start TX in a few weeks - this will be my 2nd time as the hepatitis has returned. I have been taking milk thistle for a few years now - just wondering if we are suppose to stop this before starting the treatment. My doctor at Mayo in Pheonix, told me to stop on treatment the last time. However I am hearing allot of controversy over it lately?? Does anyone know anything? I would appreciate any information you might have. Thanks so much Gang... God bless you all and your families... Love, hugs, and prayers Marie -- Re: milk thistle treatment ? Guest guest
OK IM GONNA go out on a limb here and say NO,,, DO NOT stop taking the Milk Thistle,, and dang it, it makes me so mad that you were told to stop it last time and then voila,, you relapsed... MY doc told me to take it and continue with it through my treatment and I CLEARED when I supposedly had NO chance of that... I have NEVER, EVER heard of ANYONE ( while Im sure there must be someone out there ) but never heard of anyone who took milk thistle WHILE ON TREATMENT who failed tx... but I DO KNOW MANY who failed treatment BECAUSE they did NOT take it...The docs used to say NO to milk thistle because they didnt want ANYTHING else to 'complicate' treatment,, heaven forbid that it should help,, man it makes me so mad because I KNOW in my heart that many ppl WOULD have cleared this virus had they kept taking it.. It is a known anti-inflammatory for the liver and so it helps the liver tolerate the treatment better... I WOULD have found another DOC BEFORE I would have stopped my milk thistle... Ok, Ill calm down now.,,, but you are not alone in that I have met so many ppl who failed tx when they stopped taking milk thistle... but I know NONE who failed while taking it... jax Davies <lisamariedavies@...> wrote: Hello Everyone, I am getting ready to start TX in a few weeks - this will be my 2nd time as the hepatitis has returned. Guest guest
Just heard a spot from the doctor on Fox News' "Ask the Doctor" and he said that using milk thistle seems to work for many liver problems. The problem is that no body really knows what dose and which liver problems it helps. But he said if you've got HCV, he would recommend it. I like this doctor - Isadore Rosenfeld I believe - and he normally is very conservative in recommending anything so I guess this is quite a plus for milk thistle. Guest guest
hehe,, Yes Janet and everyone,, Milk Thistle is very good for the liver as its is a natural anti-inflammatory and we all know that its the inflammation that causes the damage.. so first off it helps with the inflammation. IF you are using a siliphos bound milk thistle, that is even better as it has proven to be 8-10 times MORE effective than simple silymarin. Dr. Murray has a great in depth article about milk thistle if anyone wants to read it,, www.doctormurray.com its under the archieved articles under 'siliphos'.. I like that doc too, he seems very 'reasonable',, some medical docs are very very anti naturals and to me that seems to be cutting off your nose to spite your face.. Chinese meds have been around for centuries and they do work. but you do have to seek professional advice when using them as they can cause harm on an already compromised liver,, so be very careful.. But Milk Thistle is really good, especially when combined with schizzandra and green tea. There are more good herbs for the liver but Im not awake yet..Janet <doc_jade@...> wrote: Why not ask our soon to be Dr. of naturopathy that we have right here in our group.
