Guest guest
Hi Kim, This is actually the first post in the group about throwing up after Valtrex, so it's important to let your doctor know, especially with so little data about throwing up here. I'm sure at least some of our kids feel sick when they Valtrex and start kicking up viruses and detoxing metals, but this is the first report of actual throwing up. You have at least one therapy (Yasko) onboard and a diet with rice that I don't have a lot of experience with, so you should take that into consideration as far as my experience base. I'm hoping that with that many therapies onboard I would emagine your doctor is doing the right things to monitor your child's liver, etc. That said, if I were to guess, I would guess it's related to a surfacing virus in the gut, metals detox in the gut, or a fungal flair in the gut from the antiviral therapy. Could you expect significant results with Valtrex in 3 days? Oh yes. If you see signs of viral illness like a runny nose, that might help you figure it out. Assuming your doctor says to continue, I would consider trying some activated charcoal a few hours after the Valtrex (for maybe the first week) and see if that helps the nausea. Lastly, I don't believe in giving 500 mgs at a time. I see 250mg three times a day working the best for a child about this age... Maybe your doctor will consider starting at a lower dosage three times a day. These are just my parentdotal thoughts. There is certainly something going on if your child is throwing up. I would work closely with your doctor to make sure there isn't something else going on and proceed slowly and I would bet you'll figure it out shortly. Please keep us (your doctor and the group) posted. - Stan > > ny, ASD, 4, isn't a thrower-uper, but today, on his third day of > Valtrex (500mg in the AM and 500mg in the late afternoon), he hurled > twice. Guest guest
I agree with Stan. Definitely talk to your doctor. I would like to add one thing about vomitting since there has not been much discussion about it here. During our OLE experience, my son vomitted for a couple of days any time he ate. This was something that he used to do on a daily basis for about 10 months that had disappeared a few months prior to antivirals, but antivirals brought it back temporarily. It was a texture issue for him, and he would gag on alomost any food he was eating. It was not " random " vomitting and it went away in only a few days, and we have never seen it again -- leading me to believe that this was definitely a viral issue for him. It sounds like your issue may be related to something else. Good Luck, > > > > ny, ASD, 4, isn't a thrower-uper, but today, on his third day of > > Valtrex (500mg in the AM and 500mg in the late afternoon), he hurled > > twice. Guest guest
My son was about to throw up several times right off the bat but didn't. But I remember another post a couple of months ago where someone's child threw up after starting valtrex and the next day was completely potty trained. The funny thing is that this is one of the things valtrex is really helping with. My son finally is asking to go consistently and also just going by himself. He's been in undies fine since 3years but we always had to just take him every few hours now he's finally getting it and he's 6. - Re: Third day on Valtrex and throwing up I agree with Stan. Guest guest
I would talk to the doc and reduce the dose and maybe stop chelating for a while. Might be hard for the body to deal with both.
