Re: re/ DOCTORS COPPING A SHIT ATTITUDE !!!!!!!

I agree with Jody- Doctors are humans, too. Just as fallible as therest of us. I once had a rheumatologist ask me why I was in his office(I went to University Hosp/Clinics for a consult REQUESTED by my PNP)and he stated:"Why are you here? We have people much sicker than you."Well, I have a problem with arrogance, so I replied with, "I was senthere by my doctor and I also had a couple of hundred bucks to waste".I was torqued good on that deal and the best part is that I was sentthere because of joint swellings, my RA was over the top and NO oneeven mentioned at that point that my AST/ALT levels were abnormal. That was 14 years ago. I finally got my DX of this disease March 3rdof this year. I had my PNP send me to Mayo and I was treated very well there.Absolutely NO one has the right to treat a patient like they're asecond class citizen. I don't care how much education they have, howmany degrees or how many medical publications they've written- no onehas the right to look down upon another because they have a disease.Doctors take an oath when they get their degree, "First, do no harm"and that means emotional as well as physical. Sometimes they need tobe reminded of that.>> Hi, everyone I have been with this group a long time do not saymuch but on > this 1 I have to put in my opinion Docs are human they put on therepant the > same way we all do I live in northwest Georgia so talk about peoplelooking > down on you because of stigma I agree with flannergy about how whenyou are > young you do things that you probably would not do when you getolder I went > thru 3 docs before I found 1 my doc is a Chinese / American hetreats the > disease no matter how you contracted it, hang in there everyone > .............................Jody in GA.>

I don't think I have ever had a doc ask me how I got my hep , I think they all assumed I was a drug user . I was diagnosed back in 86 so I have had time to cope with narrow minded doctors .

Re: re/ DOCTORS COPPING A SHIT ATTITUDE !!!!!!!

you should read how I respond to the question: "How did you get Hep C?".Indignant doesn't even cover it. > >> > Hi, everyone I have been with this group a long time do not say> much but on > > this 1 I have to put in my opinion Docs are human they put on there> pant the > > same way we all do I live in northwest Georgia so talk about people> looking > > down on you because of stigma I agree with flannergy about how when> you are > > young you do things that you probably would not do when you get> older I went > > thru 3 docs before I found 1 my doc is a Chinese / American he> treats the > > disease no matter how you contracted it, hang in there everyone > > .............................Jody in GA.> >> > > > > > > > > > It's a pleasure having you join in our conversations. The method of transmission is only important when educating the public about what the modes are . Unfortunately because half of the infected used iv drugs , iv drug users are targeted for the education . It's warning them that if they use they take a chance of getting this disease . Unfortunately because of the drug use element we all get labeled as addicts , even though some of us became infected some other way .

Re: re/ DOCTORS COPPING A SHIT ATTITUDE !!!!!!!

:It's one thing to disclose to a physician how you think you contractedthe disease, it's another to answer to rude people whom you tell youare sick with the disease. It pisses me off that the disease is becoming so stigmatized thateither the general public thinks you got it cause you shot dope or(I'm telling you, people are ignorant) you contracted it sexually(yeah, they really are thinking that). The public is less thaneducated and it's really up to all of us to educate them. Right now, I just have very little tolerance for stupidity. Also, itcertainly doesn't HELP when there are news articles like this:http://news./s/nm/20060515/us_nm/four_million_infected_with_hepatitis_c_us_dcthat focus on IV drug use. They don't even mention tatoos. We have acousin that went though treatment over 6 years ago and he NEVER usedIV drugs, never had a blood transfusion, but he did get tatoos yearsago. Go figure. Had to be the tatoo needles!I personally, will NOT be shamed with this disease. If someone thinksthey have a right to judge me because of this disease, they arefoolishly wrong and it's their problem.I'm just sticking to the public toilet seat theory.........> > >> > > Hi, everyone I have been with this group a long time do not say> > much but on > > > this 1 I have to put in my opinion Docs are human they puton there> > pant the > > > same way we all do I live in northwest Georgia so talkabout people> > looking > > > down on you because of stigma I agree with flannergy abouthow when> > you are > > > young you do things that you probably would not do when you get> > older I went > > > thru 3 docs before I found 1 my doc is a Chinese / American he> > treats the > > > disease no matter how you contracted it, hang in thereeveryone > > > .............................Jody in GA.> > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > It's a pleasure having you join in our conversations. you wanna know what makes me upset? if someone beats their wife...they don't have a virus that is attached to them where they are visibly sick and when they go to the doctors everyone doesn't know their personal business...everyone doesn't stigmatize them because they beat there wife because unfortunately there is no visible virus to show this. For me, I am going to be honest. I did use drugs only a couple of times in my teen years (experimentation) and I am now paying the price. However, I am sure people have stolen in there lives or done other things where later if they get cancer or something people don't say, "oh, you stole, or oh you cheated on your wife- too bad you made yourself sick.' It just makes me kind of sad, I am a good person just because I tried something doesn't make me bad, and I don't deserve to be sick. None of us do, whether we contracted it through blood transfusions, tattoos or what not. We are all human and we are all equal (well I

question this sometimes :-) because my mother in law, now that's questionable). So that's my rant- the picture of the needle, now come on is that for sensationalism or what? dumb journalists, thanks guys, Jennelizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: The method of transmission is only important when educating the public about what the modes are . I do have to admit the picture of the needle was uncalled for by the author , it just perpetuates the stigma we already have to deal with .

I recently read the narrative report written by my neurologist - he indicated that he was testing me for HIV based on my history of IV drug use. Now, I told him that I used drugs 35 years ago - there was no HIV then, right? So was he suggesting that I was lying and perhaps using drugs long after that?? Kind of pissed me off! And HIV was negative.

No, I didn't overreact. The report states, " I would like to do HIV testing

as well, although I think unlikely, but given her previous substance abuse. "

As I said, my " previous substance abuse " was 35 years ago.

Re: re/ DOCTORS COPPING A SHIT ATTITUDE

!!!!!!!

This seems to be a problem with those of us that read our charts-

sometimes we over-react and hey, considering our problem, we have

reason to over-react.

Perhaps he just wanted to rule out the possiblity that you might have

HIV, some are indeed asymptomatic, carriers so to speak.

Honestly, I'm not very upset about it. I just mentioned it since the

subject was being discussed. I just thought it was stereotyping HCV

patients. And I'm glad he tested me for HIV. I'm in a monogamous

relationship for over 30 years, but you never know these days......

Re: re/ DOCTORS COPPING A SHIT ATTITUDE

!!!!!!!

I'm not condoning what your doctor did and I do validate your feelings

about his comments- I'd just let it go, tho. Sounds like he's fairly

thorough and wants to rule everything out that makes us high risk.

Well, I said I was monogamous........I don't think I could say that about HIM!! That's why I was happy to have the HIV test!

I wouldnt think that He could do that WITHOUT your permission,, and I might have had some rather 'unkind' words for him,, you are a good sport Dorothy,, that would have sent me into a tail spin!Dorothy <dorv@...> wrote: I recently read the narrative report written by my neurologist - he indicated that he was testing me for HIV based on my history of IV drug use. I didn't say it was done without my permission. In fact, I had to sign a special form. I was referring to the narrative report the doctor wrote which was sent to my other doctors. My complaint was that he based the test on my history of drug use - when I told him it was a very long time ago.

Although I heard a small bit of a news report this morning - about tracking HIV to the source - I think they said 1981, but also mentioning the death of a boy in 1969.........so guess you never know!
