We don't have a pool, but I share your concern about the chlorine,

etc. I took my ADHD daugther for swim lessons last year and she had a

terrible reaction every time. I gave her molebdenum (sp?) prior to

every lesson, only let her be in the water for the 1/2 hour lesson,

showered immediately after and put epsom salt cream on. She had

lessons every week night and consistenly had severe leg/arm pains that

started within an hour of every lesson, dark circles under her eyes

and was much more hostile/hyper than normal. The pains didn't occur

on weekends but started again during the week after every lesson. I

don't know if it was the chlorine, copper or some other chemical but

it was really bad. Chlorine has always bothered me so we have filters

on the showers, etc. at home. I was planning on starting my ASD son

(3yrs) swim lessons this summer but I can't risk it until I find a

lake or beach for them. I found out last fall that my children have

problems with oxalates and Owens has posted some on chlorine and

oxalates so that was probably a contributing factor.

I was wondering if anyone read that document. It will be interesting if you try

some

taurine prior and the magnesium sulfate cream after if that helps at all (since

it sounds like

you will be getting into a chlorine pool). Let me know.

since my grandson swims all the time(he started in the YMCA special program 5 years ago) and is a fantiastic swimmer and LOVES it-we use magnesium chloride in the bathtub from Essence of Life. Woner if that helps as well. I cannot imagine taking away his swimming. Stan Kurtz <kurtzstan@...> wrote: I was wondering if anyone read that document. Sneak preview the all-new .com. It's not radically different. Just radically better.

I took all the known precautions and it was still pretty bad. I had

heard about molydenum (help with copper?) but not taurine. My kids

are already on 1000+mg/day taurine. Do you know how much to take

prior? She still talks about how bad she felt after her swimming

lessons. I am glad it wasn't my son because he couldn't have told

me how he was feeling or what was wrong. I am sure her reaction is

rare, and I still believe it is important to teach them to swim.

However, I am going to have to wait until they are doing better.

If my child responded like this, I wouldn't reintroduce them to chlorine. I

would seriously

look at getting a saline pool system.

Where can I get magnesium cream? My kids also have a negative

reaction to chlorine. We used to do epsom salt baths after swimming

but I need an alternative now. We can no longer do epsom salt baths

because our bath tub tested positive for lead.

Thanks,

Kirman's sells magnesium sulfate cream. Also I read,

probably on another listserv, that you can make your

own by mixing magnesium salts (epsom salts) with emu

oil or some other hypoallergenic oil or lotion.

Hi ,

Neat idea! But I'm not sure how you would figure out the dosage. It think it's

only 1/2

teaspoon of the cream from Kirkman... I wouldn't know how to dose the epsom

salts with

emu. Maybe there's a simple way and I'm missing it. Is there a simple way? I

would just

hate to hear folks dose magnesium wrong to save 18 bucks + shipping.

Stan I don't think dosing is a big deal - you just adjust the amount

you use. Even for epsom salts people do anywhere from 1 tbs to 1 cup

to 2 cups. You watch your child and decide. What the Kirkman's might

have extra would be the ingredient that makes the MgSO4 get into the

skin, FWIW its that particular ingredient (forget what its called)

that makes my son break out into a rash on the third application :-(.

Hey Stan!

That was a GREAT little paper!

Came just when I needed this info, too.

Last summer we switched from chlorine to H2o2 and it was great, until

we all got red hair....and the finish on the pool began to crumble...

(We can now laugh about the red hair....Ha! Ha!)

But are in the middle of refinishing the ganite are in search of a

non-toxic alternative....

So there you have it, Mr. Stan...looks like your little paper

appeared at the perfect time!

Thanks,

~Angel~

P.S. Thanks for being the " DAN! Roadie Dad " and sharing your

experiences.

I hope your compiling all this into a book...I can see you on Oprah's

book list already!

Have a GREAT day!
