Guest guest Posted July 1, 2005 Report Share Posted July 1, 2005 I have been fighting my school district since February to send my son to Camp Excel in NJ (campexcel.com) although it says ADHD children on the website, they have multiple AS kids! I had my IEP in May and was surprised that even the director of his school that offers a summer program he has been attending, stated that Camp Excel would be a great program for . I was rejected numerous times(and after the IEP) and before requesting a mediation I started sending EMAILS! the last one, after being told by the district that they have never been overruled in mediation, and if I went due process would be more expensive than just paying for the camp tuition.... finally changed their mind I cc that email not only to the NJ dept of education but also to a senator my IEP now reads"the district still believes that 's school program of insistrict ESY progran can meet his needs however, in the spirit of compromise we agree to place him in the camp excel ESY program for the 2005 summer season. so basically they are telling me not to expect this every year just wanted to let you know how I won in case anyone else is fighting, or for future fights! Didn't cost me a penny and they had to hire an outside bus company to transport him also!!!!
