Guest guest
Yes Ban, they are encouraging. What does your Dr. say? I think as long as you are not having too much trouble tolerating treatment, any period of reduced viral load is helping your liver. Is the prognosis for sustained responce good? I can't say. But getting the viral load down, even for a short time, even if only while on tx, is a good thing. I hope the sides aren't too terrible. Guest guest
Hi Ban Well, IF I were you, I would email dr Ben Cecil and ask him about these results,, YES,, you should have been UNDETECTIBLE at week 24 and usually if you are not,, most docs will stop treatment... but Dr. Cecil knows HOW to personalize the treatment and has helped others when the docs said they were not going to clear, he has helped them to clear.. YOU had a good drop by the 12th week,, but not enough on the second 12 week period... Like says tho,, you are giving your liver some relief with treatment. If you wish to have Dr. Cecils email address,, here it is,, Dr. Ben Cecil <bdceci01@...>, HE IS THE BEST as far as hep docs, and has helped several ppl that I KNOW clear when their own docs said to forget tx... thats my advice,, I hope you are able to continue treatment and can reach undetectible,, Dr. Cecil had me treat for 48 weeks AFTER I reached undetectible,, and I am now clear over 3 years! Good luck hon jaxban_from_texas <ban_from_texas@...> wrote: My progress on Tx. thus far: Viral count at diagnosis - 5.5 million At 12 weeks - 18,300 24 week results - 6,780 While it is encouraging to see that my viral count is going down, I thought that at 24 weeks my count should be zero. Guest guest
As long as you have had a 2 log drop the doctor will keep you on the treatment for another 24 weeks . Just because you didnt go undectable doesnt mean that you wont . It just means your responding and it may take a little more time . This is why treatment is 28-52 weeks , and if you have genotype 2 or 3 treatment is just 24 weeks . From what your lab works shows , it looks good you have had a 2 log drop . I am assuming your a genotype 1 ? 24 Week Lab Results My progress on Tx. thus far: Viral count at diagnosis - 5.5 million At 12 weeks - 18,300 24 week results - 6,780 While it is encouraging to see that my viral count is going down, I thought that at 24 weeks my count should be zero. Guest guest
Liz, I remember reading where it said that if you dont show undetecible by week 24 that your chances of reaching SVR were less that 1%.and MOST insurance wont cover beyond 24 weeks if you still have a viral load.... I wonder if newer studies are showing better odds now,, I sure hope so,, this treatment is so difficult,, who would want to keep going IF you are not going to reach SVR.. elizabethnv1 <elizabethnv1@...> wrote: As long as you have had a 2 log drop the doctor will keep you on the treatment for another 24 weeks . Guest guest
The last I knew was that if the patient achieves a 2 log drop by week 12 then treatment is continued . There is only an approximate 50% chance of achieving svr , but it is worth it for some to keep trying . Like me ,lol There are a great number of people who have had to keep treating well beyond 52 weeks but they eventually achieved svr , like Bette . 24 Week Lab Results My progress on Tx. thus far: Viral count at diagnosis - 5.5 million At 12 weeks - 18,300 24 week results - 6,780 While it is encouraging to see that my viral count is going down, I thought that at 24 weeks my count should be zero. Guest guest
Brew! Who are you asking? I treated in 1997-8. Had terrible side effects during treatment and was so depressed I came close to killing myself. I'm glad I didn't because while the treatments only really helped me while I was injecting. As soon as I stopped the virus came back, but that may have been because of my depression. Anyway, at the time I lost my hair in clumps, Irritable Bowel Syndrom, felt exhausted all the time, nausious everyday after the injections, had sleeping troubles, lost about 45 pounds (I needed to lose about 35 of that) rashes, brain fog, and travelling aches and pains. Post treatment I lost my gall bladder after about one year of gall stone attacks, and to this day still have IBS, varyinig degrees of brain fog and memory loss, extreme fatigue, sleep disorders, some kind of neurologic related itch on my legs, and stuggle to stay free of the whirlpool that is chronic depression. Small wonder I am so outspoken about the side effects of the current standard of treatment. I felt fine before treatment, never missed work, had what I thought was the best marriage on Earth, and was looking forward to an early retirement. I got the early retirement, but lost all the monies and things that I thought would go with it. STILL, I would not do any of it differently. I've met some of the most wonderful people, seen a part of the world I never would have even considered, and my life has changed in most everyway for the better. Guest guest
Wow! Thank you all for your honest answers. I am genotype 1a and I havent had very bad side effects compared to some of the horror stories Ive heared about. I have heared of people staying on Tx. longer than 48 weeks, but I have some goals I need to start working towards in the fall, I'm going back to college and I need to work out and get my body back in shape. I think that if I am not clear by 48 weeks, I will just try treatment again some other time. Youve all been very helpfull and I appreciate the prayer energy. ban_from_texas As long as you have had a 2 log drop the doctor will keep you on the treatment for another 24 weeks . Guest guest
Dear I hope you don't mind but I had a few questions for you. How long were you on the treatment? Did you have to stop due to the depression. Did you end up loosing most all your hair? I had some really bad side affects also - I too was one of the unfortunate ones. I think I had just about every side affect there is and then some. There were some days that I didn't have the strength to walk to the bathroom, and if I stood up I was nauseated. I hurt all over my entire body, I can't describe the pain in words it was so severe. There were so many times through out treatment that I wanted to quit, and if you would have asked me when I finished if I would do it again - I would have said "hell NO" - but after being clear over a year and half, mine has come out of remission within the last 6 months, and has come back with a vengeance. I have almost jumped 2 stages in 6 months, I don't drink, I don't do drugs, and the only vice I really have is the PC, and smoking. LOL Just thought I would ask you about your sides. Now that I am faced with needing to desperately to start on chemo again, which I am going to do it again without a doubt. I think I forgot how good I felt when I was hep free, until I was, and all the pain and sides were worth every minute of it. Not to mention the beautiful friends that I have made through this disease... Well good luck to you both And May God continue to bless you both and yours Marie -- Re: 24 Week Lab Results Brew! Guest guest
Jax, I am probably quite sure that what you are saying is right, a little hard to believe that it could cause cirrhosis of the liver as fast as the alcohol, but I do realize just how bad it is for me. And when I am ready to quit - I will give it up for good. I cleared the virus last time in 11 weeks, was suppose to stay on 48, but moved and state insurance didn't pick me up. But I was still clear last July 2005, and was grade 1 stage1 - now I am stage 2 grade 3 - pretty fast for 6 months. Has me a little worried - but I will get through it. Thanks for you input Jax. I do know just how bad I need to quit, but if I tried right now, I would hurt somebody... LOL but true... I can't eat, lost all appetite, I keep loosing weight like crazy, I lost weight on chemo last time, I am sure I will loose even more once I start it again. You all - I have lost my cobra, wasn't able to afford to keep it, I have an appointment with SSD tomorrow, but can't get any help from Social Services, unless I am 60 - I am only 41, I am disabled and already receiving disability, which I am filing for but as we all know that takes awhile. Or if I have small children at home. I am stuck without a paddle - if anyone has suggestions - please help.... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. May God Bless you all Love, hugs and prayers Marie -- Re: 24 Week Lab Results Brew! Who are you asking? I treated in 1997-8. Guest guest
, when you go to apply for SSI if you want to receive it easily play on depression . SSI for hep c is hard to get unless you suffer from another dibilitating problem . Depression is considered debilitating , and they take depression more serious than hepatitis c . And if you get origanl copies of all your medical records / labs , and tests it will cut down on the aplication process . Re: 24 Week Lab Results Brew! Who are you asking? I treated in 1997-8. Guest guest
Liz - hey there, I am applying for SSD ( Social Security Disability) What is SSI, isn't that through Social Service, because they already told me I didn't qualify for that because I wasn't receiving SSD yet, once I receive that - then I will automatically get a medical card - thing is I can't wait a year or two to do treatment. And I know sometimes it takes that long for Social Security to come through. As far as help through Social services, they said that I have to have a child at home under the age of 18, be over the age of 60 or receiving SSD. So I am really screwed when it comes to medical coverage. I don't know what to do. I thought about holding off on filing for SSD, getting a job with insurance, but then I am afraid that they would say it was prior problem. I mean I know I can't work once I am on the treatment, but I had thought of that, and then I thought well hell they will fight me for pre-existing condition. And I do have RA that I am filing on also, which is Rheumatoid Arthritis. I would be afraid to use the depression thing because if they think you are to depressed isn't it true that they won't let you start treatment? Let me know gang - I am all ears right now. Love ya guys May God Bless you all and yours Marie -- Re: 24 Week Lab Results , when you go to apply for SSI if you want to receive it easily play on depression . SSI for hep c is hard to get unless you suffer from another dibilitating problem . Depression is considered debilitating , and they take depression more serious than hepatitis c .. And if you get origanl copies of all your medical records / labs , and tests it will cut down on the aplication process . Re: 24 Week Lab Results Brew! Who are you asking? I treated in 1997-8. Gee, I sure hope you were asking me about the side effects... Guest guest
SSI ( Suplimental Security Income) is applied for through the social security department . They will have their own doctors review your case and examine you , there is no way you treating physician would know about the depression. You can apply for medicaid through the local social services office .. I had applied for ssi 3 times and was denied , but the last time I applied I told them about my depression and I was approved in just 3 months . It can take up to 2 yrs to get approved for the ssi or ssd . I have an article about applying for ssd or ssi I will try to locate it and post it . Re: 24 Week Lab Results Brew! Who are you asking? Guest guest
Also stress the disabilities you have from Hep C without blaming them on the disease. I had so many smaller things that I passed the judges scrutiny on those, didn't even mention the hep c. Guest guest
Yep, I agree that you shouldnt mention Hep C cuz they believe that hep c is an asymptomatic disease,, so they will think you are lying about how you feel,, they do not consider hep c disabling UNLESS you have cirrhosisSharon Crosby <blubirdxoxo@...> wrote: Also stress the disabilities you have from Hep C without blaming them on the disease.
