Guest guest
Definitely Give her something for the fever. Motrin alternating with Tylenol every 4hrs to get that fever down. Rubbing Alcohol: rub down all over back, arms, legs will drop temperature too (very quickly). Don't let her suffer with a fever. I am always nervous with very high fevers, as they can bring on seizures. Hope she feels better orelindel <whatmattersmost@...> wrote: Hi Everyone,If this message appears twice, I apologize. Guest guest
Generally more than three days of a fever children should be seen by a doctor-(some still do know something) especially if it's a high fever. Could be something you can't see-like an ear infection. Maurinecatherine quinn <quinn.cat1968@...> wrote: Definitely Give her something for the fever. Guest guest
Anytime you lessen fungus and bacteria you may kick up a gut virus IMO. But this could also just be a virus she contracted externally. It's hard to say. <check with your doctor of course... this is just my opinion> I would certainly NOT use Tylenol since we know based on studies that it reduces glutathione... and I would avoid really taking anything but pediacare, if you can. If it gets too high, then obviously jump in with something... but if it's just mildly high I would just use pediacare... Just my parental opinion. - Stan > > Hi Everyone, > > If this message appears twice, I apologize. Guest guest
I don't want to make this a big thing, but I'm one of those people who believe the body knows what it is doing when it makes the body temperature go up. Sure, at time, it can get out of control and you need to step in, but the main reason for a temperature is to kill off invaders. I like the alcohol idea and other natural ways to make your child comfortable, but I really wouldn't do too much unless the fever was over 101, 102.. or something like that. Again, that's just one guys opinion. - Stan > Hi Everyone, > > If this message appears twice, I apologize. Guest guest
I agree with Stan. Tepid baths! They and cold compresses have always worked for me. Even my pedi says not to give Tylenol or ibuprofen unless the fever is over 102 degrees. Re: New and have a question . . . Guest guest
Actually, I had heard that rubbing alcohol is not recommended for fevers and a tepid bath is better. That's what we would do for our kids. Not cold water but not warm either - they usually don't like it since it feels much colder to them. Also, my daughter had febrile seizures and didn't have really high fevers - just 101 at the most. The doc explained that it could just be spiking a fever that can bring on seizures. This happens in 1 in 40 kids and they usually outgrow it by age 5. My daughter is 6 and her last seizure was when she was 2. They are scarey, but not harmful in most cases. But I would still call the doc and go in for a visit to make sure all was ok. Yes, alternating Motrin with Tylenol is what we would do too with my daughter - just because the doc assured us that the seizures weren't harmful didn't mean we wanted to go through them again! Guest guest
Stan - I do agree with that line of thinking - I just got really freaked out by my daughter's seizures so for her I have given Motrin and tepid baths. However, since she hasn't had a seizure in 4 years now I have been backing off the drugs and just giving her the baths. I read a great book called "How to Raise a Healthy Child In Spite of your Doctor" that gives great advice about childhood illnesses and when to worry. Guest guest
Febrile seizures are usually caused by a sudden change in temp ie 98.6 to 103 in a hour not 100 for three days. That being said, seizures can be dangerous if the last for long periods of time(5 min). The problem with seizures is that you do not breath when seizing and lack of O2 can be bad. I would say as long as your child is tolerating lots of liquids and the fever does not get to high above 101 ride it out and let the immune system work. If they start to get lethargic or they stop taking liquids or it gets to high call your doctor.
