Guest guest
Hi Mark, Strangely, I haven't seen anything differ when three times a day is during meal compared to three times a day being every 8 hours. But, I have seen differences in 2 times a day compared to three times a day, so I suggest three times a day which generally seems to be administered during mealtimes. This is not based on any half life suggestion. In fact, Galxo says once a day is fine for STD uses, but it doesn't work well for our kids like that. Maybe they can only process so much at one time. Maybe having a more steady dosage helps to properly modulate adenosine rather than spiking it low or high... I'm not totally sure at this point, but I do believe, based on family reports, that three times a day is the better than two. If you want to take a peek at the Valtrex PDR, it's in our FILES section of this group. - Stan > > Hi, > > Is there any recommendations on timing of giving valtrex 3 times a > day? i.e. would it be better every 8hrs or every 5hrs during day and > not at night etc. > > I suppose the yard-stick is just what has worked for others but if > there is anything technical based on the half life of acyclovir that I > have missed then it would be useful to know. > > Thanks in advance, > > Mark >

Guest guest
FWIW, Andy Cutler says it should be dosed 5 or 6 times per day (presumably throughout the night?), but I haven't been able to go there. Guest guest
my son is supposed to take valtrex 3x a day (1500 mg total). because he is in school from 8-4:30pm, m-f, i had a problem with the 3x day. i told our doc about this problem/dilema, and he said it is okay if i gave the valtrex at 5pm (when we get home) and then before bed if he doesnt have sleep problems. so, i would give the 5pm dose and then another dose at around 9:30pm (yes, my son goes to bed at 10pm! but, he sleeps all night. pick and choose your battles). so, that is my particular schedule. i will confess though, i dont always give the night dose. so, basically, my son gets the valtrex 2x day mostly. of course on the weekends and holidays/school breaks, it's back to 3x day. this may not be that good but i am not getting any negative reactions from my son. he was on valtrex some years ago, 3xday strictly. this is his second go-round of valtrex. vicki

Guest guest
I used to work with a Paramedic that would put children's Motrin in his son's bottle at daycare so he would not have to miss work because of a low-grade fever.
