Guest guest
Hello all -- I went to refill my vinegar bottle yesterday from the five-gallon carboy I keep in the basement -- yes, I make apple cider vinegar 5 gallons at a time, who doesn't? Now, I always kind of thought that the MOV was the brown gooey sludge at the bottom of the bottle. But when I looked at my carboy, I saw that the vinegar had formed a gorgeous rubbery layer on top, exactly like a kombucha SCOBY! So please help me figure this out -- do I now have a mother of vinegar? (And if I do, how do I get a foot and a half-diameter mother out of a two-inch carboy mouth?) Thanks for your input!
