Guest guest
, I too felt very intimidated working out in front of all those men in the gym. Especially when I had to take of their 50 pound weights and add my measly little 10 pound weights! The good news is that nerves went away after about 2 weeks. (I've only been on the program for 4 weeks) Now they guys all say hello to me and I don't feel intimidated at all. My trick is to go to the gym very early in the morning when there is no one around. For my first two weeks I went at 5:30 in the morning and found only two old men and another chick! After about two weeks I felt stronger and more confident I go anytime I want and who cares what those guys think! Happy lifting,
Guest guest
Hi Michele! Congratulations on sticking with it through your injury. YOu will have a nice juicy answer for your " overcoming obstacles " question! I am currently working in a gym (membership sales for now but hopefully personal trainer after October 22nd!) So anyway, it give me time to " observe " alot. And it just makes me sooooo mad when women are afraid to use the free weights because they are intimidated by the men. I don't mean to be mean, but what gives the guys more " privilage " to use those valuable free weights than women. You deserve to be over there scultpting your muscles! There are alot of women that feel like you do, but hopefully we can change that! We should be making the guys intimidated because from what I see in the gym the women use better form and workout smarter than most men anyway!!! Sorry guys on this list, I don't mean to come across as a man-hater or anything, this is really one of my pet peeves!!) ))) Robin
Guest guest
Hi ! I understand your feeling. It's much the same for guys who have never gone to the gym before to all of a sudden be surrounded by these monsters who can bench press their car. It took me a few workouts to get used to having others around and realize that nobody cares about what I'm doing =B-) I'll share a piece of advice I was given when I started: 90% of the guys in the gym have no idea you're there. In fact, they're so busy grunting out sets or admiring themselves in the mirror that they don't know ANYONE is there. That being said, it might help you to find a workout partner. Someone you can talk to and share encouragement with during your workouts. You'll be less concious about everyone else and more focussed on the job at hand. Good luck!!!! > Hi everyone! > > I started the program a few weeks ago but as i wrote before, I fell > down the stairs and bruised my ribs. Guest guest
, Just walk thru there like you own the place!!!! If your gym is anything like mine, the guys are polite and will not make you feel uncomfortable at all! In this day and age there are usually almost as many girls as guys anyway (unless you go to a real HARD-CORE gym). Just do it!
