Guest guest
Hi again... Kidney doc said that my aldosterone was being suppressed. I asked how he came to that conclusion. He said it was 20+ before. Then after the saline test, it was 10. I told him that they did not do a pre blood draw and the 20+ was from a test two weeks ago. He pretty much said that it did not matter when. I told him that every peice of literature I have read said that post saline ALD of <5 is normal and mine was 10 so something seems broken..especially with all the sysmptoms. He said I might have adrenal hyperplasia ?? due to the fact i complained about flank pain alot. Then he said either way his treatment will be the same.. he started me on 25mg of EPLERENONE twice a day. He said there was not enough evidence to suppport a CT scan.. I was dazed and confused.. I should have argued harder, but i'm a hot mess and not feeling good so I walked out bummed. I started the MEDS last night and the big notice is that I am peeing quite a bit. Also at his office..I had gained like 10 lbs. in the last 3 weeks ?? very very unusual for me. I told him that I felt like I was retaining water...he just looked across at me and shrugged it off.. " no you don't have any edema " ..I said I know, but I can just tell..My skin feels like it's not fitting right..upper body. anyway.. I see my ENDO in two weeks.. not sure what I should do. Get all up in his grill and ask for more tests or see how the new meds do ? I'm tired metally of dealing with this..I just need some relief for a bit. I do feel a little better today.. I don't feel so " distressed " ?? I know its suppopsed takes a while for meds to work, but i do feel different already. Maybe from all the voiding of urine has helped. He also told me to stop the potassium supplement Anyway.. thats a day in my life when I see doc's
Guest guest
Wesley: I had multiple test for serum aldo done the past two weeks at NIH. The variation on my results i have so far is huge. I went from 12 to 5.6 in two hours one day, up to 15 the next day and 22 the day after that. (I think the 5.6 was a bad sample) Using a two week old test as the base line is crazy. I'm beginning to have a very dim view of certain segments of he " medical profession " based on my experience and what I have read in this group. My Original Endo recommended surgery based on one 24-hour urine/PRA test and an CT scan that showed two adnomas. I think that outside of the major research and university hospitals Doctors don't have a clue on hyperaldo, and haven't bothered to stay current on the research. My suggestion is for you to print copies of documents here on diagnosis an testing, including the " flow chart " from the endocrine Society and take them to yo your endo visit. Anyway, good luck.
