Hello:

Here are the initial tests results I have for aldosterone from my tests at NIH. All test for PRA taken at the same time were reported at the minimum of <0.6 ng/dl/hr.

According to my Fellow, Dr, Endo, they are farily certian as of today that the IV salt loading test were off for some reason, but being cautious want to look at all the data before making an "official" diagnosis. They did sample through the same line used for the saline solution.

I'm curios how much aldosterone concentrations change over time. Is a drop from 12.0 to 5.6 in two hours extreme?

I have PA by Dr. Grims pee volume test, of 2050 cc during and immediatly after the test.

I have lot more data including an oral salt loading test in the nexf week or so. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

Mike

Not with saline. Did they do 2 or 4 hour saline test?CE Grim MDOn Jul 27, 2012, at 8:39 PM, ww_engineer wrote:I'm curios how much aldosterone concentrations change over time. Is a drop from 12.0 to 5.6 in two hours extreme?

You appear to have very low renin and lowish aldo. Always makes on think of a licorice eater bur aldo would be lower. Suspect dilution of aldo when blood was drawn thru saline line. How much did they draw to discard before taking blood sample ?When you get all data then good to plot like in the article by Conn's group on first normokalemic pt.

Dr. Grim:

I never eat licorice, or use any licorice flavored products that I know of.

As I remember, they flushed the line with a small amount of saline and then drew

a few cc's through a syringe and wasted it before drawing the sample with a

second syrnge. Also the first draw at 5.6 was before any saline and should not

have been dilute.

The other possibly that occured to me is that they used the wrong tube for

collecting the samples. They set up all of the tubes at one time and had them

in a rack before the test, so if one was wrong all would be wrong. I would hope

however that the lab checks that the sample is in the proper container.

How do serun and 24-hour urine aldo values typically compare? I have results

for 2 urine samples several months apart. One was 40 back in May, and a second

last week at NIH of 41 NIH.

every renin test I have had done was <0.6.
