I'm a little confused by plasma renin measurememts and hope someone here cah

help.

All of my test to date have been for " Plasma Renin Acitvity " with the results in

nanograms per mililiter per hour (ng/ml/hr) For each test my results have been

reproted at <0.6 which I understand to be the minimum detectable level for the

test.

Another members recent post had a post had renin at 0.38 with norms of 0.25-5.89

So are thier two tests, or is this just different labs standards? Also what

exactily is " activity " in hours measuring

Thanks for any help

Mike

Some measure activity (preferred) ng/ml/hr which measures how much AI generated in 1 hr of incubation and others measure the renin concentration itself. So you need to know what the normals are for that lab under the conditions that pertained to when it was measured. Also should have 24 hr urine to document salt and K intake.CE Grim MD On Jul 25, 2012, at 12:17 PM, ww_engineer wrote:

Dr Grim:

Thank you for response. The one hour time period now makes sense for an

" acitvity " measurement.

NIH sends the samples to the Mayo Clinic in MN for testing. The renin results

come back first. I'll shave more data latet this week and will post.
