Low sodium V-8 is a great source of k. Some people like Coconut water for k, not coconut milk or cream. Costco sells coconut water. I don't like it on its own, but it has a slightly salty taste so I add it to soups and smoothies. Google other sources of potassium. I'm with you in the thought that a diagnosis of Fibro should probably really be diagnosed as a low k problem. Dianne

Nope..no high K diet .. I'm really new to this

I am being treated for Fibro due to muscle aches and pains for the last 2 years.. I always told them that I thought it was hogwash and that my body was not running right. With these huge fluctuations in muscle aches, I'm inclined to think I had a low K issue for a long time

I even got "Code Blue"'ed in a hospital last year. I'm only 42

I was in for a partial blockage..

It ended up releasing or something and I pooped so much water and yuck. I know it sounds gross, but it was alot... then I passed out and my whole body seized up/crammped.. my face went numb and I couldn't feel my legs. They thought I was having a stroke or an allergic reaction. They never could answer why that happened.

Some said allergic reaction..some said a funky never or something toggled. never any answers and I was sent home when I stablized. The blockage was gone after that episode.

I now think I lost so much fluid and I was already low K that my body went into low K shock.

My last K result I have seen was 3.9 post saline loading test. This is while I was on 20meq of K. I think that's the highest it's been in a long time. All the docs would ever say is " you K is low. Eat some bananas "z I never saw any numbers.. But the kidney specialist looked at my history and asked me if I always had low K. I told him the banana thing !! Then he put me on supplements. I need to learn how to do the thumbnail thing. Then collect all my tests and post them. Sent from my iPhoneOn Aug 1, 2012, at 2:21 PM, " " <jclark24p@...> wrote:

You didn't tell us what your K was when you started this. Many doctors do it this way (we should call them the IGUESSDOCS! ) Unless your K is in the higher end of the scale my doctor would have started the Eplerenone and had me on a 2-week recall recall for testing. (I have to drive 102 miles for that testing but she doesn't care, she doesn't like to hear me bitch! )

I would agree that your K is more than likely low and I would suspect the Eplerenone isn't completely working. Since you didn't mention DASH or a urine Na test I am assuming you are outsalting the Epler. You can increase epler but it likely won't do much but maybe give you diarrhea! They should do some baseline testing unless this has been recently done, 24hr urine especially.

A good thumbnail will make it a lot easier for us so we can reduce the guessing. Do they know you have PA or what makes them suspect it? BP numbers and are you taking it at home daily?

We can probably help if we know what is going on.

I really don't eat alot of salt since I have had blood pressure issues. For example. Today I ate a yogurt and granola bar for breakfastFor lunch I had a roast beef sandwich . No mayo just Dijon. Lettuce. And not alot of roast beef. I ask them to make it with half the meat. Swiss!! Did drink a Gatorade .. But mostly water. That's it.. I'm home now from work and may make a snack and watch some tv to relax . Maybe a bowl of cereal .. GranolaI just took my K supplement. Im convinced my K is low. When I was seriously controlling my sodium, I ate no bread, cottage cheese, deli meat, cheese.  I'd like to see you add up the sodium/potassium in what you ate. Ok. I used to eat alot of canned goods until I started paying attention to sodium levels. I think my biggest problem is that I have been feeling so crappy for so long I kinda give up and don't attack that kind of stuff very hard. I feel too down trodden most days to make anything really count. I have no support system other than my young kids but I do my best to hide it. Which is not very good. Thumbnail example 0 to be copied at the bottom of every email you send to the group: M, 41, 5'11 " , 300 lbs, aldosterone = 20, renin = 0.3, K = 3.0, other test (all with normal bands), BP level (and for how long), what drugs on now or in the past, what worked, DASHing?, and other issues, etc. There are now over 700 people in the group and it is impossible to remember what each said and when.  For example, one day you could say your K is " good " (whatever that means) and a few days later, your BP is very high (whatever that means).  Few will connect you to both those conditions.  Remember in the U.S. doctors must give you a printout of all your test results.  Keep your own records.

Forgot to add - my BP was spiking to 180/110 or around that range before they put me on some BP Meds. They prescribed Lisinopril first, but then I discovered that shouldn't be taken with the Imuran I take for my MG. this helped my BP, but my swelling and overall pain due to swelling got worse. Then they prescribed Clonidine which lowered my BP, but made me so weak and dizzy I could hardly walk and definitely could not drive to work. Luckily I am able to work from home when I need to(like this whole last month).I'm trying to follow the DASH diet. I feel better and not peeing all night long but still a couple times. Maybe I'm not getting enough spiro or something? I had a couple bad days this week where I felt super weak again. Not sure about that either. It could be the MG.JanetOn Aug 2, 2012, at 12:52 PM, Janet <jmryczaj@...> wrote:

So no problems with BP?Nocturia how many times a night?I can imagine someone with low K problems being Dxed with MG by error. Which came first? low K or MG.And I suspect low K makes MG a lot worse. But not my area of expertise.

Still not clear on the time of the course of your MG, BP, low K? Which came first. When did nocturia start.Still suspicious of Dx of MG if low K was about the same time.

The MG came first as far as I know and I have very classic symptoms of it. I kind of think I have had a mild version of it all my life. Autoimmune diseases run in my family. My dx came after Menopause, but my PCP suspected MG before that in 2004. He tested me for it via blood test, but turns out I am considered a sero neg mg'r which is very common. My eyes were the first bad symptom, droopy and blurry. Then in 2006 I started having problems swallowing and losing my voice within 5 min of talking ( my vocal chords were not closing per tests). Very weak neck muscles which have caused a lot of pain working at a computer. Also get weak arms and leg dragging. My k may have been in the lower of the range for a while. But this spring is the first time I remember it was below the range. I have been getting a lot of muscle cramps for over a year though. My neuro said it was probably due to the Mestinon. So I didn't push it.My BP has been elevated off and on it seems since I started taking the Mestinon too. I assumed it was causing it because it does get you twitchy at times or very flushed.Nocturnal - it seems like it has been going on for a while, but it has been worse I would say this last year. I got up at least once a night about 4 hrs into sleep. Now it has been about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. I also assumed this was mg related due to muscle weakness. But now I don't know if that was the reason. I do also have problems making it to the bathroom once I get an urge, weak muscle control there too.I guess I sound like a very out of shape person. I am not a super athlete or anything and I am overweight. But I do go to the gym regularly, ride bike or elliptical for 20 min, 20 min of floor exercises like sit up's, leg raises, push ups, then do some weight work and often 20 to 30 min of swimming. I also try to get in some 40 min walks when I don't go to the gym. However, this last month I have been to wiped out to do much of anything.hoping I can get this new challenge under control soon so I can get back on track.Janet On Aug 3, 2012, at 12:21 AM, Grim Clarence <lowerbp2@...> wrote:

Low sodium V-8 is a great source of k. Some people like Coconut water for k, not coconut milk or cream. Costco sells coconut water.

If you have not I recommend the 14 day DASH test diet to see if things (muscles) get better.

Still not clear on the time of the course of your MG, BP, low K? Which came first. When did nocturia start.Still suspicious of Dx of MG if low K was about the same time.
