Guest guest
Dear Listers, The Ohio Department of Special Education is making changes that will affect our children's education. There will be a meeting sponsered by the Ohio Coalition For The Education Of Children With Disabilities to discuss those changes and what we as parents can do to help. I don't have the specifics of the changes but this is what I have gathered so far, One of the proposed changes is ASDO...basically they want to clump all catagories of disabilities together. They want to allow schools to exempt our kids from the proficiency exams (this lowers the schools overall score when our kids test low) Basically I feel that this is an attempt to get out of being accountable for our kids educations! They want to change the ratio of students to teachers and also want to increase the Speech Therapy case load by allowing schools to apply for a waiver to go over the 1-80 case load to include up to 120!!! Our school Speech therapists are already overloaded...if this happens our kids won't get the amopunt or Quality of Speech Therapy that we know they need. For more information PLEASE try to attend this meeting. Meeting info is as follows. The Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disbilities is sponsering a one day conference on May 18th, 2000.
