Guest guest
Hi, my son is 12 and does these things also but not as loud or extreme. One thing we have found that helps redirect this when in public is his I Touch. He watches favorite videos, listens to music and plays games. He also takes pics and makes videos. This really keeps him occupied and redirects those atoms to a quiet activity. He keeps collapsable headphones with him to use instead of earbuds. When anyone seems curious or concerned about his vocalizations, I just smile and tell them he is autistic. Most everyone has been very accommodating and accepting when I share this. Best of luck. He will repeat scripts from videos or conversations held in the classroom at school. When he is at home watching you tube, he bangs around and vocal stims. You can hear him outside the house he is so loud. He is 16 and in the transition stage. Any recoomendations for IEP, home, community? You all know this odd behavior can be frightening to those who don't understand the disability. We have had people leave the bus stop where we are standing because they were afraid.
