Guest guest
Have you guys ever wondered if your child on the spectrum has hit a plateau? Like 'this is as far as she is going to get' kind of thinking? I find myself thinking this about Kaleigh. She's been in ABA therapy now for 2 years and is still doing the same things they taught her when she started but that seems to be all she's doing. I will say though that her receptive language is amazing, like she understands what we tell her. But expressively, she hasn't made any progress whatsoever. She's in speech therapy while at ABA but we can't tell if that's been effective because she still babbles the same way she did 2 years ago. Behavior wise, nothing has seemed to change either. She's constantly knocking things over in the house, like I can't even have a bowl of fruit on my kitchen table anymore. She slams my lower kitchen cabinets over and over again. She's turning on the faucet in the bathroom then running out, lol. She reaches up in the dish rack and takes out the clean silverware and throws them on the floor...we have to make sure there are no knives in the dish rack now. When we go to gatherings or have friends over, she reaches in their plates of food...it goes on and on. Besides turning on the faucets, all the other behaviors she's been doing for over a year now and I'm just wondering " will she ever stop doing this stuff? " Will she be 15 years old and slamming kitchen cabinet doors or taking the floor vents off and sticking objects down the vent? We really try to do our part at home, like sensory activities to help cut down the behaviors but it just really seems like nothing is working at this point.
