Guest guest
Sheila -- Our son will be 15 next month and his (obvious) TS/OCD behaviors started about 2 years ago. After a really unproductive/uncooperative start with one therapist, he started seeing his current therapist over a year ago. It took our son until just the last month or so to be willing to work on ERT -- he wouldn't even complete the Y-BOCS to rank his " issues. " He's liked the therapist from very early on, but it's just taken him that long to be willing to feel that vulnerable. Even so, it's still slow-going. Others on here have said that if you don't start seeing at least some effect within the first half-dozen ERT sessions, then it's not working -- but it's not going to work at all if the child isn't ready and willing. Once you find the right person for him, he'll probably still need some time to feel comfortable. Don't worry about worrying about his OCD -- we all do that! " One day at a time " is my co-opted mantra :-) Jane B. In a message dated 5/9/2006 4:32:54 AM Eastern Standard Time, writes: My son has appointment Wednesday with therapist. He usually works with adults but he does specialize in OCD. We took him to a therapist in the fall. She couldn't work with him because he would not talk about his OCD. He only had one session with her. We're trying again. I don't know if it will go any differently this time. He doesn't know about the appointment yet.
