Guest guest
I am interested in finding out what all of you say to family members who think that OCD is a behavioral issue. My sister and brother are staying with us right now from out of town and I'm hearing a lot of judgmental type remarks such as " He does just fine when we're around or when he is doing something he's enjoying but then he shuts down when you (meaning my husband and I) are around or when he comes homw after being out with us. " Our son is 16 and has been diagnosed with mod. to severe OCD for the last 2 years. I've tried to explain that this is textbook OCD, when they're stimulated or having fun or with other people they're great kids but they catch up on the OCD symptoms afterwards but they keep insisting that it's a behavioral problem. I'm sick of saying the same thing over and over!! Has anybody else encountered this and, if so, what have you said to quell the doubts about this being a parenting/behavioral problem. Thanks in advance.
